I think there's scope for the likes of Coleman, Meyler, Wilson and McCarthy to play their way into the squad on a permanent basis.

I wouldn't be so sure that he will start the first few games but he has every chance of making a few competitive sub apperances and then playing himself into the starting 11 at the expence of Andrews.

I'm beginning to feel very positive about our upcoming campaign. It's been a while since we've had such a good young batch of players coming into the senior squad. We're 4/1 to win the Euro 2012 group

Coleman, Cunningham, Duffy, Meyler, McCarthy, and Wilson have all made huge progress in the last six months but haven't been in a competitive squad. Even better is the fact that they fill the full back and centre midfield positions where we are weakest.
    Criticism is prejudice made plausible

So Paul Green of 17th placed Championship side Derby is the only one the FAI scouts could get on the granny rule? Not even Simon Cox......

He could be involved in the playoffs with Blackpool by then. I presume that's why he wasn't included.

He already called up 3 right backs in that squad (Kelly, McShane, Foley) and has O'Shea and St.Ledger who can play there from the senior squad. Why on earth would he call up yet another right back in Coleman?

eh because this would be a great chance to see him in action within an ireland squad and it is really a get together to have a look at some new faces. IMO coleman is better than all 3 anyway, going to be a star.

Right well despite his vast experience of a combined 11 premiership and championship appearances I don't think he quite fits the bill of players ready to be thrown into a grueling european championship qualifier cauldron. =P

We have 5 more experienced right backs and with the exception of McShane probably more talented. We simply don't need him at the current time, it's unfortunate for him that he's playing in a position we're so well covered for. I think if he was a left back he would be in this squad.

Because he might be better than the rest? Its a training squad, there are no limits to the number of players for each position. Even then Foley plays regularly at right midfield and he already knows what the rest can do.

The play offs seem the likely reason.

I don't think so, I just don't think there's any likely use for Coleman in the squad for the foreseeable future. It's not a summer camp where you call up anyone and everyone whos halfway decent just for a bit of craic. Trap's planning his squad for the next campaign, hes looking at newcomers and fringe players who can challenge for a team place and putting them through their paces. He's already going to be trying out a new right back in Foley in this camp as well as giving much needed game time to fringe players Kelly and McShane there. There's no room for another and I don't see a situation in the next two years where we'll have that many injuries at right back where we'd need to use him.

Colemans one for the future but he has a lot to prove at the top level before I think you can reasonably expect him to leapfrog the likes of Kelly, McShane etc.

Why did he call Greg Cunningham up for the Brazil friendly and then not include him in the training camp? Is he injured? You'd think this would be the best time to see new left-backs in action? Well at least he included Ward :P
