    Monaghan

Monaghan had the better chances and shaded a poor quality game in Ferrycarrig today. With Shane Dempsey injured, Wexford started Packie, Chris, Wolfie, Anto, Warren, Jimmy, Shane S., Patsy, Dean and Gary and Danny up front. Wexford started the brighter and had three half-chances for Jimmy (header), Danny (shot) and Gary who went round the keeper but couldn't strike it cleanly out wide on the left. Monaghan then went ahead with their first real threat of the game when a long-ball was missed by both forward and back leaving the Monaghan winger to run straight onto the ball and push it part Packie. No cover and very very soft. Monaghan then created three or four more good chances and were dominating in the air. No surprse when Breener was brought on for Shane Sinnott who had done nothing wrong about ten minutes before half-time. Danny nearly got on to a bad back-pass but nothing from Wexford otherwise. Nil-one at half-time.

Wexford tried hard to get the equaliser in the second-half but never really threatened with two free-kicks from near the 18 yard box being the best we created. Kevin Rowe came on for Warren and was slotted into midfield and did well with the ball at his feet. Wexford got a few corners as well but didn't seem to be able to get onto the end of anything. Monaghan had a lob just over in their only chance in a poor half. Wexford went 3-5-2 at the end but didn't affect the result. About 350 at it. Need to beat Salthill in our match on Sunday next in Ferrycarrig.

Silly question but what time did the game kick off? Was passing by yesterday on the way back with half a mind to catch the end of it, but it was just over.

Ah right, cheers BR. Had assumed it would be 3.00, and was passing by just after 4.
Disappointing (though not surprising) to hear the 2pm isn't working out too well. Can see the point of not going up against the 4 o'clock Sky match, but 2.00 might be a bit too early for people (specially with families) to be done with their Sunday things. And soon enough there'll be the hurlers and/or footballers to contend with as well.

Stann, well at least in Wexford we won't be up against the GAA footballers and hurlers for too long.
