Good three points for Wexford in Terryland tonight but have to pay tribute to Mervue who worked their a**es off for an hour with ten men and created a few good chances themselves. With Breener and Gary Sheahan missing, Wexford started with Packie, Chris Kenny, Wolfie, Patsy, Anto, Warren, Shane D. Shane S., Dean and Jimmy and Danny up front. Wexford started the brighter and forced a number of corners early on without creating anything until about 25 minutes in, when the Mervue left-full slid in showing studs into Shane D. who had just got the ball away and got a straight red. Nothing too malicious but badly timed. Game then basically petered out until half-time. Pitch was very hard and best chances were always going to come from set-pieces but Youth's delivery never really got beyond the near-post. Nil-nil at half-time.
Game opened up in second-half and Danny had a good cross-shot which went just wide and Jimmy had a header just over. However, Mervue pushed hard and created their own chances and hit the cross-bar with a lob from 25 yards with Packie rooted and then Packie having to make another save soon afterwards. Goal then came for Wexford when Mervue defender headed backwards leaving Jimmy to swivel inside the box and tuck it away under the Mervue keeper. Packie then pulled off another good save from a volley from outside the box. Mervue then ended the match with a number of corners with Wexford fighting hard to hold out. Best for Wexford on the night were Patsy, Dean and Anto.
