Dundalk striker Fahrudin Kuduzovic has admitted that the team are “disappointed” and “frustrated” with their performances in the opening two league games, but feels they “should be happy with results”. The Lilywhites have so far accumulated four points and lie third ahead of this Sunday’s trip to Shamrock Rovers (kick-off 3.45pm), while, including pre-season friendlies, they remain unbeaten in Ian Foster’s nine-game reign. And Faz believes the side will only improve as the season progresses.
‘Quite disappointed’
“Performance wise, as a team, we’ve been quite disappointed,” the 25-year-old told dundalkfc.com, “just starting games pretty sloppy, letting teams get the upper hand and giving them a leg up, if you like, in the first half. We’ve been disappointed, but we’ve won a game and drawn a game in the opening two matches, and I think that’s very good. If you look at even the top teams, most of them have slipped up, but it’s early, to be honest. I think the main thing in the first round of games is you need to iron out your mistakes, make sure you’re solid defensively and score goals at the other end. I think after the first round of games you really know where you stand. In general, I think we should be happy with the results we’ve got. But I think performance wise, we’re a bit sort of frustrated with ourselves.”
Tallaght memory
Dundalk may not have beaten Shamrock Rovers in league competition since September 1997 (17 meetings ago), but on Kuduzovic’s last visit to Tallaght Stadium, last October, he helped Cork City to a 2-1 win, a victory which as good as killed off the Hoops’ title challenge. “The last time I played there, it was a brilliant game,” he recalled. “It’s a good venue. I love playing in good stadiums on nice pitches, and it should be a really good game. The surface there is really good for football. It’s a good experience for fans, it’s on the TV again, there’s always a buzz about big games, and I’m really looking forward to it. As I said, a lot of the bigger teams have already slipped up. Rovers obviously had a disappointing result on Tuesday night, and they’ll want to get back on the right track.
