A player might see a pay slip for the first time when they come to Linfield as everything is done through the books.
Is he being really clever or incredibly stupid?

Or lying? IMO, Linfield are against the salary cap because they know they can outbid any other club in the IL when it comes to wages.
Have you ever won the treble?

But surely as the biggest club they should favour a salary cap? After all, if they've the largest income then they would have more money than anyone else to spend on wages.

He's basically saying everyone else is tax dodging, so the we're against the idea of a salary cap because we're the only honest ones.

Obviously he has an agenda, but what is it?

Is he, roundaboutly, highlighting financial mismanagement [read cheating]?

    Dictating to the ifa?

Misguidedly, looking out for the irish league? - if there's any truth in what he's saying then level of oversight required for a salary cap could have huge knock on effects for clubs, see loi.

Linfield will lose out to an extent if a salary cap comes in. That's why he is against it. One of the options on the table not only is a % of direct income bu also a banding scheme where by you can only have 'x' number of players in some bands eg the top ones.

Personally I remain to be convinced of the benefits.

If you mean full time as in the players all training full time, there are no full time clubs on that basis. Linfield have a few players who are employed full time.

Michael Gault, Damian Curran, Peter Thompson, Michael Carvill, Billy Joe Burns, Curtis Allen, Robert Garrett, Jamie Mulgrew and Chris Casement are all full time. The rest of the squad are part time.

Linfield talk about all this "we can't afford to pay x amount" but the truth of the matter is if Linfield really want someone, Linfield get them. Very rarely do they lose out for financial reasons.

We lose out more often than we think. Lots of players we tend to go for decide to remain at their club because we don't offer as much as they do. If they don't stay with their club they'll probably go to the Glens, as their chairman is a complete fool who sniffs round what we're after and whispers extra dosh in their ears to tempt them away from big bad Windsor.
