    EPL relegation betting 09/10

    http://www.oddschecker.com/football/...gue/relegation

Wigan at 5.7 on Betfair looks interesting to me. They've been punching above their weight for 4 seasons now. Martinez had a good footballing side at Swansea but, as we saw with West Brom last year, good football can bring you down if you don't have the players.
I think Hull are a certainty to go down, but evens is the best you'll get on them. Phil Brown is a clown and they haven't improved their squad at all. Darryl Murphy is hardly the sort of target that inspires confidence. Wolves are slightly better at 2.7 on Betfair, their only signing that impressed me was Doyle. McCarthy has always found the step up to the Prem difficult.

    Opinions?

I think Portsmouth, Wigan and Hull are the only teams from the Premier League last season that might go down.

Portsmouth will be down to only 14/15 players once Crouch and Distin leave and that will still leave them in masssive debt so not much chance of decent replacements been brought in. African Nations Cup will make some of their players unavailable too. 9/2 is the best price and even though much can change over the course of a season I think I'll go for a big stake even though it's ante-post.

Looking forward to seeing the handicap table too when that comes out.

**** it I'm going for it. 10pts on Portsmouth to be relegated@9/2. They were previously 6/1 and price will shorten more I'd say.

I agree with you on Portsmouth but am wary that some Arab consortium will come in and steady them financially.

Too late to worry now anyway, the bet is placed.

On Portsmouth at 9/2 as well. Rumours of them heading for administration which would mean a points deduction. The proposed take over has apparently stalled for mysterious reasons, banks are rumoured to be looking to call in loans etc. They don't have a manager and don't seem to be doing much of a pre-season. I'm not gone big on it but it's definitely worth a punt.

Edit: Hmm, just saw Dman's link, goes to show not to believe all internet rumours. Still we'll see how it pans out.

    More on Portsmouth: http://www.irishtimes.com/sports/soc...251030400.html

I backed them to go down last season. Then they got rid of Tony Adams again. Life just ain't fair sometimes.

I think they will get rid of Paul Hart this season as well he could well be the 1st man to leave/get sacked

Will he even start the season in charge?

It'd be harsh on him as he did a great job, but he's not a big name so will probably get the chop.

Yep. I was very, very wrong on that one. Good to see though, he deserves a run at it.
