Shels edge to opening night win
Shelbourne 1-0 Shamrock Rovers
A first half header from last season’s top scorer Jason Byrne helped Shelbourne to an opening night victory over their city rivals Shamrock Rovers at Tolka Park on Friday evening.
Byrne grabbed 21 goals last season and took just 20 minutes to open his account this time around, rising to glance David Crawley’s well-flighted corner past Rovers’ debutant keeper Noel Mooney

Wasn't the best match. Shels were always in control but lacked cutting edge which is understandable given our suspensions out wide. Fitzpatrick was class, man of the match on his debut (That went down well with the away support) and looks to be a perfect partner for Byrne, who took his goal brilliantly but wasn't at his best throughout the match really.
Around 4,500 people there so a decent crowd too, considering Rovers troubles.
