    I can understand Dolan...

Its only now i am starting to understand what Pat Dolan told me about Forum fans on the net..we won COMFORTABLY last night on our opening game of the season..i think some people expected us to win 15-0..Dublin City are an eircom league side and last years 1st div champs and we made them look very average without playing at our best..it was the 1st game of the season and there are the usual suspects on here moaning about how we did not play great and that certain players were poor..i could not beleive reading Shedites comments about his brother not being impressed enough to return to the X soon..some of you guys slate people for nothing on here and not one of you have said anything about those stupid commets...Micky made a mistake last night but he has been brilliant for us over the last few years...so give the guy a break...again i will say it..we WON last night 3-1 and are on top of the league...people have the right to voice there opinions but you would think that they would also applaud when we win..Pat Dolan must be sick reading some of the commenst on here..bl**dy moaners some of you...

I konw we won last night 3-1 but we made it hard dublin were missing a lot of players last night and the score could have been a different if they had a full squad.we have one of the bigest squads this year and we could have been a lot better

I think you're all under estimating Dublin, they could suprise a few people this season. 3-1 is a great result I'd say.

I think we've got to realise that this was the first game.

    - New players getting familiar with one another
    - Players playing in new positions
    - Opposition who really were not prepared to open up and attack City, making things very conjested

I for one would hate to see us peaking in the first 1/4 of the season.

We'll get much better and you can see that we have some class players now ( with a few more to come such as Sweeney, O'Flynn II etc )

Personally I enjoyed being back, enjoyed the game saw 3 super goals, great crowd, good night overall.

Not every game is going to be like our 3-2 vs Rovers.

Plus it was light years better than last season's opener!

Just start enjoying it because I think this year will be special.

Well they were not as bad as i thought they'd be with 8 players out ... so yeah i'd say other teams so not write them off.

First game of the season the newly promoted team is always gonna try harder to show that they will be no push overs. Dublin City never came to the X to win, they came to make it hard for City. I don't expect much of them for the season but thought it was an impressive start to the season for us.

Season openers are normally tight games with new players trying to get used to each other. City played some good football the other night and I for one reckon that the new signings coupled with the players we already have will make for a good season ahead

The idea of forums is that everyone can have their say, some people go through life being negative and moan about everything. On the day Cork City play a perfect game, people will moan about having nothing to give out about. Fans are always giving out about something and are entitled to, however annoying it may be.

That's very true Niamh but some people fear them because opinions are recorded so publically on Internet forums.
If there were no Internet forums people would still moan down the pub or in the canteen at work, just like they have done since the Germans invented moaning People will always have an opinion.
If you disagree with them and they're wrong then you're that little bit pleased with yourself.
If you disagree with them and you're wrong then you realise that you don't know as much about the subject as you thought you did.

Pat Dolan's fears of Internet forums are based on his own insecurities.

You mean the fact that every City fan does NOT worship the ground he walks on

Friday night had enough to keep optimists happy and pessimists worried. O'Flynn is brilliant - no doubt. But City will need to rely on him big time this year. He should be wrapped in cotton wool between games. Fenn looks class (particularly second half) and he and O'Flynn will be the strike force of the season. However nothing has been done it seems to address the problems of the last two seasons. City are really soft in the centre of the park. O'Callaghan is not a central midfielder that will dig in and get the ball back for the team. City will really struggle away from home if he persists in picking a team like Fridays. O'Callaghan is not good enough to warrant inclusion when he is not going to add something. He has nice touches granted but he has to pick one of Nwankwo, Sweeney or O'Halloran. There are enough attacking options - needed now is someone to win ball back in tough games. O'Callaghan is not that man.

LFC - as a Limerick fan do you think Sweeney is capable of filling that role you talk about? I woulld be interested in your opinion. Judging from the posts on the Limerick site they seem to think he's in the same mold as Reynolds etc.

Georgie wasn't meant to be a ball winner - he supposed to create play not break it up.
