Good to see a player of Cunningham's quality and experience back in the LOI with plenty still to offer.
I never quite understood what held him back after he left Man City, but injuries probably took their toll - he's had a broken leg, cruciate... the whole gamut.
He was captain of a good Ireland U21 team that included Shane Duffy, John Egan, Jeff Hendrick, Eunan O'Kane, James Collins and Robbie Brady. In hindsight, that group, which also included James McCarthy and Matt Doherty (and would have included Grealish...), was probably the closest we got to a 'golden generation' in recent times. I was at the game in 2012 when they drew 2-2 with an Italy U21 team that featured the likes of El-Shaarawy, Immobile, Insigne, Verratti, Destro, Santon and Florenzi. Well worth the point too.
End Apartheid Now! One Team in Ireland!
I was at the game against Hull when he broke his leg, I had a season ticket at Leicester around that time in my opinion, that injury & the timing of it changed things, he had gotten straight in the team & was impressive. Ireland were fast tracking him. Liam Rosenior was sent off for the challenge.
What purpose is served by an earlier post slamming his PL apps escapes me. Maintained a top two tiers career despite managing injuries is more of an indicator of his ability.
Great to see another one coming home anyway.
Nearly 250 championship appearances, handful of Premier League appearances and a handful of international caps.
Nah, he was fairly crap.
