    Gareth Cooney

Has apparently signed for Kilkenny City on loan.

No smiley Deise - but I presume you're joking. Whatever about Kilkenny on the pitch they run a good show off it and players are far more likely to be paid. Gareth did really well for us and Kilkenny is a handier spin from Dublin than Limerick is. Did we ask him to sign for us? How well did we treat him after his injury?

I wish him all the best. I am not looking forward to him playing against us.

Yeah I think that's well out of order DD. The guy spent a loan period with us. So what? He gave his all while he was on loan with us which was for a short period of time anyway. I'm mystified that you can support our own players walking out but chastise a loan player for not coming back in favour of a club that's closer to home and more secure off the field. What's that about like?

Definitely a good player who was apparently approached. I honestly don't believe that Kilkenny have any hope of improving themselves this year, so maybe youre right - it could just be about money.

So something like McCarthy, Hughes, Foley, Heffernan, Purcell, Sweeney, O'Flynn et al then?

And given that Bohs paid most of his wages last time that's a complete misnomer and an unfair allegation to throw at somebody who has no way of defending themselves. He had a choice. Also rans near home or also rans away from home. Kilkenny City have brough in players with much more experience than we have though I'd expect us both to finish in the bottom four so it's far more ideal for Gareth rather than commuting to Limerick twice a week.

No it's not out of order and no I'm not chastising him. It's more confusion on my part. Everyone else moved to clubs who should have more success than us this season. The moves were made when there was no offer on the table for them in Limerick. There was an offer for Cooney, the money situation had been sorted out. The mitigating factors that were there previously were not an issue for Cooney. The simple fact is that he has chosen to move to the weakest team in the division. Cooney did well for us and was a very nice guy who I honestly do wish the best, but I just can't understand why he thinks this is a good move to make. Not being smart or anything but if you could give me a reason why you think this is a good move I would take it on board, but it really doesn't make sense to me...

It's simple. If you think we're going to compete this year you're wrong. We have about 6-7 players who have enough experience and ability. If you can not see and understand what Mike Kerley is making clear as can be in the press then you know very little about football.

Gareth Cooney is a loan player. He will not, under any circumstances finish any higher than 8th in the First Division with Kilkenny City this season. The same would hold true with Limerick. Limerick, Kilkenny, Cobh, Monaghan and Athlone will be the bottom five teams in the first division there though Athlone could be a bit too good for the other four as well. Loan football is all about gaining experience. Gareth Cooney will train in better facilities with Kilkenny City. He will be closer to home and able to train with Bohemians as well. His career and the interests of Bohemians are far better served than this loan spell than they would be by another fruitless spell at Pike Field. That's why it's a good move for him, he's closer to home and will achieve just as much anyway, will play against the same players anyway and get just as much football as he would with us.

And while our money situation has been 'sorted out' I'm wondering how much change he would have gotten after buying his return train ticket?

It is nowhere near an absolute disgrace and you're the only person who seems to hold that view.

Probably a bit more. Dublin - Kilkenny is two seperate trains with a change at Waterford.
