well in fairness to Galway, Pats and Dundalk they are all cutting their cloth this season, if thats 3 less clubs not facing the risk of hitting the wall then that can only be a good thing for the league.

That's very early for an LSC game, no? Any reason for that other than just to get it out of the way?

I know signings are not the worth the paper until the FAI stamps its approval but unlike the Turner situation which was a personal change of heart there are players who have agreed contracts and wages with Drogheda who are going to get swindled here

Drogheda need to be thrown into the First Division like they should have been last season to get their house in order because like Cork it appears they've learned nothing from examinership and are screwing their players and fans about with reckless budgeting.
Untwist your knickers there! Their budget was 10k last season too. No increase.
I'm just guessing here but i'd imagine that no contracts were signed with players at all. So they're hardly being swindled. Apologies but i never have any sympathy for players so im going to be biased in this one.
I agree with you though. First division may be best. Cant understand how they seem to be in constant difficulty in comparison to other clubs?Their internal structure must be an absolute mess.

True, but the idea behind the licencing protocols was to ensure ALL clubs remained viable with appropriate business plans. Incidentally I think questions have already been asked about Galway expenditure post Connor appointment so hope we are not talking 2 less clubs.

It certainly does nothing for the League when the main topic of discussion is matters off the field and provides ammunitition for the bar stool LOI slaggers.

I read last year their budget was 7k~. Anyway I'm not usually the biggest sympathiser for LOI players myself but respect and professionalism goes two ways, if Drogheda have offered Player A €650 a week, signed the contract and now a few weeks later due to their unrealistic budget have to say to Player A take €350 a week or leave it as far as I'm concerened they are swindling the players

i do hope they pull true, i like drogheda as a club, would be a shame if they go bust.
I also hope they survive, we need the two big gates, last season over 3,000 attended the first game and just under for the second, Im sure Drogs too would be glad of our home games.

Makes no sense anyone gloating over another teams downfall, you`re only as strong as your weakest..............

No players have signed contracts according to the people in charge. The situation that you described happened in Dundalk last season at the mid way point. After signing players they then asked them to reduce their wages. I can see how that would be frustrating for a player I suppose. Still, would i rather a club survives by cutting a previously agreed wage or would i rather the player got an extra couple of hundred a week and a club folded at the end of the season?easy winner.

Passerrby - 10k is probably the minimum required to stay in the division. We've cut to that this year and i expect us to struggle. Afaik, Bray were the only team with a lesser budget last season. Agree though, for a mickey mouse venture like a LOI club, it's a ridiculous amount.

You reckon? We'll be on E3k a week this year, I think. Let's see how it goes, I suppose...

Thought Galway were going to be on less than E10k too, and maybe one or two others (Drogs, Cork/Bray)

I dont where your getting your info. Our Budget was less than €6,500 last year and has been cut further this year and ours will be less than Quarter of your own clubs for this season so you should start looking closer to home for fairy stories.

Very worrying what Des Cahill has just said on morning Ireland. Are Drogheda really in such a bad state or is this just another poor pr thing? After all the work to get the club into some sort of shape this is horrible.

Why cant they just go amateur or close to it this season and only pay players 100 quid a week each?

Get in the best young local 18 year olds / LSL players and let them get on with it, yeah they will struggle and probably be relegated but so what? Only for Derry going bang they might well have been relegated last season with a much higher wage bill!

It'd be massively unfair to put them out of it, after all there are lots of clubs still having issues with their budgets and the FAI.
