When should we expect the squad announcement? I guess not until anonther 2 weeks?

The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist thinks it will change; the realist adjusts the sails.
Ward is the only one I'd put money on if I had to. Hard to know with Trapp
I do think there's gonna be one out of left field though, a Granny rule recruit. Based on nothing more than a hunch and the idle speculation on the other threads...
I would pick a big squad, allowing the first choice guys to be there with young players, and to get a look at as many as possible before the next campaign
Given, Westwood, Murphy, Kelly, Foley, O'Shea, Dunne, O'Dea, St. Ledger, Ward, Kilbane, McGeady, Lawrence, Gibson, McCarthy, Andrews, Miller, Fahey, Reid, Reid, Whelan, Hunt, Duff, Folan, Keane, Doyle, Stokes, Sheridan, McGoldrick.
Would start with
---------------Given------------
Finnan Dunne(c) O'Dea Ward
Lawrence McCarthy Andrews Duff
-----------Doyle Stokes--------
Is there a limit on subs?
Assuming no then Keane on for Doyler at half time, and Foley and Kilbane on for Finnan and Andrews soon after. Then get on the youngsters for the last 20 minutes as the chance presents itself.

O'Shea is injured for a few more months backtowalsall
McGoldrick?? story?
Sheridan? Please, Im all for bringing in afew youngsters who have earned the chance. Cillian does not fall in to that category or anywhere near that category at this stage.

McGoldrick? Sheridan?
Its like 1994 all over again...![]()
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
Not much other than that he's been doing well for Forest from what I read, and they are flying high at the top of Division 2. Worth a look in a friendly I think.
He offers a real physical presence up front, in my opinion he has the potential to be a similar kind of player to Niall Quinn. I'm not saying he should be in a squad for a qualifier, but from what i saw of him when he got a chance at Celtic he looked good in a good team. Its always going to be harder to impress at St. Johnstone, but I think its worth having a look at him train with the likes of Keane and Doyle. If nothing else it will give him a boost, and it would be great for us in the next decade if he develops into an international class player.

I would love to see Chris McCann pull on an Irish shirt , just once . Now if it wasn't for that Givens feller etc etc .
Finnan is having a decent game (at left-back) against City today. While I accept that he isn't going to be around in 4 years time I think he does provide an option for us in O'Shea's absence and, although he doesn't like playing there, he could also give Killer a rest at left-back. Until we have blooded some younger players we can't afford to discard anyone.
"There's man all over for you, blaming on his boots the fault of his feet" - Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot
He offers the physical presence of a wet paperbag blowing around in the wind at the moment - He is tall but that is a different thing altogether.
He did ok at Celtic when he got those few games under Strachan and showed that he knows where the goal is and can work hard and also has reasonable pace for a big fella. However he showed plenty of shortcomings also, poor first touch, getting easily muscled out, going missing, running around headless chicken like. He's since gone on loan to Motherwell and Plymouth without too much success (hardly featured at Plymouth) lets hope he gets more game time at St. Johnstone.
At this stage in his career, it would be absolutely pointless bringing him in to the senior fold, when players like Folan, Morrison, Stokes, Best, Doyle are playing regularly Im not sure what it would bring other than perhaps a smile to his face?
Billy Mehmet plays regulalrly for St. Mirren, tall & strong causing a problem for defences in the SPL and scores a few (if not massive amount) of goals. He is nowhere near the International setup and nor should he be but he is doing more to justify a claim than Cillian Sheridan is at the moment.
I am not trying to knock the lad, He is v young and has loads of time to develop and I want him to succeed but International Squads should be for players who have earned the right to train and play in that arena - It needs to mean something. I think we have all seen that Trap wont be dishing out caps willy nilly and I dont think he will be dishing out squad places like that either.
