Anyone using Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala?

just recently decided to give linux another go (tried it on my desktop for a few days last year and couldn't really get my head around it) I've installed it on my laptop now and I am 100% never going near Windows again
got the osx leopard theme for it with the Application Dock which i've really missed since my g3 iMac died about 2 years ago. some great graphics packages, works well with my meteor broadband to go and so far (TOUCH WOOD)hasn't so much as hung nevermind crashed
Open source is the way to go !!

I've never used Linux but always fancied giving it a try. Can you run it on a Mac?

Open Source stuff has come a long way in the past few years. Gone are the days where you needed to memorise commands. Ubuntu is a great place to start.

I'd use it more often if I didn't rely on technologies that are Windows only (.NET / C# / Visual Studio).

    You can dual boot.

Also there's mono http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page which supports majority of .net 2.0

Anyone that's interested care to post linux alternatives to windows software?

I've just completed my first semester in programming so we've only really used textpad so far

I'd still use TextPad for minor development, like testing ideas in a single class.
It's actually really good if you're just beginning to learn programming, learning with a full IDE like Eclipse can make you lazy because it does so much for you automatically.
