Help us vote for Fight of the Year

You may or may not agree but the Bernard Dunne v Ricardo Cordoba fight was in my opinion the fight of the year.

However it was never shown in the US and aint getting much recognition although Sport Illustrated voted it their FOTY.

Now I know some of you will have other ideas with regards which is the best fight (here is my personal Top 10)

    Bernard Dunne-Ricardo Cordoba
    Juan Diaz-JM Marquez
    Sergio Martinez-Williams
    Martin Rogan-Matt Skelton
    JM Lopez-Rogers Mtagwa
    Andre Berto-Luis Collazo
    Marcos Maidana-Victor Ortiz
    Ryan Rhodes-Jamie Moore
    Martin Lindsay-Paul Appleby
    Tony Quigley-Tony Dodson

But seen as its a local boy and its the only European fight listed I was hoping it might get a bit of support here!

There is a vote at the bottom of the page, you dont need to register to vote and it only takes a second - do your damnedest

I beg to differ. This argument has been played out in detail elsewhere so I am sure we dont need to go through all that again here.

MMA is very technical when it come to the ground work and wrestling - however, this is the most tedious and boring element of the "sport" as far as I am concerned. Whereas the "striking" or punching is above on the small level as an under age boxing tournament in Ballymote. I dont mean that disrespectfully (although acknowledge that it is disrespectful) but its the truth - the boxing in the UFC or other MMA I have seen is so childish that it is laughable.

My opinion is that it is a well marketed freakshow. You just have to see that type of people that go to the events to see who it attracts. I went to the most recent UFC show in Manchester as I had a press pass and I have never seen a bigger bunch of mindless morons then the time I picked a mate up after a Cascada gig.

Its packaged and marketed like WWF and that obviously works well as it has attracted a number of new fans that boxing has failed to keep a hold of but for me its embarrassing to see so many guys with such little talent get so move recognition.

Thats OK Aubs, you'll grow out of it, its just a phase.

When MMA fans have matured and start seeing through the WWF style "razzamataz" production that UFC puts on and realised that its sporting prowess that they really crave then they will be back to the pugilistic arts.

I actually stayed up to watch it after a cracking night of fighting (Macklin in Dublin, Khan over here, Huck in Germany and Williams-Martinez in the US - hey I suppose boxing is dead though yeah, FOUR world class cards in ONE night whereas UFC has ONE show every month or so!)

I've been following Martinez for a long time now and wrote this piece on him two years ago when he first came to my attention.

There was a potential fight with John Duddy being talked about which first brought his name to my attention so I watched a few of his fights on YouTube and was quietly blown away.

I had him ahead in the Williams fight and the Cintron fight as well.
