Eamon Zayed scored his first goal since completing his loan move to English First Division side Crewe Alexandra last month by scoring for the Alex reserves in the 1-1 draw with Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night.
The Irish under-21 international striker, on loan from eircom League First Division outfit Bray Wanderers until the end of the season with a view to permanent move, netted in a reserve game against Port Vale during his trial, but last night’s goal was his first since putting pen to paper at Gresty Road.
Zayed, who scored 19 goals for Bray last season, rose well to head powerfully to the Oldham net for the opener after 20 minutes.
The Latics hit back in the second half to claim a 1-1 draw, but Zayed will hope that his goal and all-round performance can see him force his way into the first-team squad of Crewe manager Dario Gradi before the end of the current campaign.
Gradi has admitted in recent weeks that he may have to enter transfer market to buy cover for first-choice strikers Steve Jones and Dean Ashton, but Zayed will attempt to convince his manager that such a move is unnecessary.
Whats the bets he'll be back to us in may ?
