Just got another nasty one from Fuller - studs high and over the ball - and not even a yellow card. Get this man off the field for his own safety!

Sunderland are on more than just a new-manager good run of form. The way they're playing, they could be serious contenders for a Champions League spot next season.

MoTD complying with Tony Pulis' line that Meyler's reaction was what earned the red. The same still they showed that highlighted Huth pulling out of the tackle showed Meyler's ankle getting whacked by Huth's shin.

Bone on bone. Both Shearer and Lawrenson know that hurts.

Dumb tackle, yellow card and a stern warning was probably the fair outcome but Meyler - just back from TWO career threatening injuries - also deserves some protection from the panel in light of Pulis' accusations.

Didn't see it. I did, however, see the form table, and it has been mentioned on many podcasts I listen to, including OTB on newstalk 106-108, football weekly with james richardson, and the ESPN soccernet podcast.

Here's one link, just shows repeats of the same viewing angle, doesn't show clear contact being made because a Stoke player is blocking the view,
however Meyler got to the ball first when Huth came lunging in, it looks like Huth caught Meyler's left foot.

Meyler did very well to get out of the way and considering his injury problems Pulis should have laid off Meyler.

The more I look at it the more its a tackle that should not have been attempted.

Pulis is like a lot of the other managers in that if the tackle was against his player he would say that the player should have been sent off and if its his player tackling then the player should not be sent off.

I kid you not with the above statement !

That is how infantile the nonsense that is coming out of the managers mouths today is !

This is one of the reasons that the Sin Bin (while still retaining the straight red card for very serious offences)should have been introduced.

A fifteen minute Sin Binning should have been introduced by Fifa back when they wanted to take some of the nasty tackles out of football.

But when did Fifa ever do the sensible thing ! ! ! ! !

Reckless challenge. Thankfully Meyler managed to just avoid it with not too much contact, and even then he had a bit of an awkward fall as well. Pulis is a *****.

You can tell a lot from the players' reactions. Huth is making sure Meyler is ok because he knew he had made a dangerous challenge.

This may give Meyler a good opportunity to get regular first team football.

It really is a shame that Meyler has struggled with injuries so much. When I have seen him play, he certainly seems to have something about him, more so than McCarthy I would even say.

Its certainly an opportunity and I hope he gets it and that he has recovered well enough from his injury to perform to the best of his ability.

Cattermole can't have a lot going on between the ears to get himself sent off from mouthing at the referee after the match had finished.

Fair dues to the ref for giving him the straight red. Its a pity more refs would'nt dish out the red card for players mouthing off.

Did O'Shea play LB yesterday? That's how it looked the way the newspaper printed the teamsheet.

    O'Neill to assess Meyler options
    http://www.independent.ie/breaking-n...s-3104168.html

The article seems suggestive of a loan move in order to gain some experience. It seems like the only way he can force his way into the starting line-up on a regular basis, unless O'Neill goes with him from the off in August on the back of an immense pre-season.

As Gibson has showed us, and what we all probably suspected, a midfielder needs games. He'd be a seriously attractive loan option for most teams, seeing as he has been (I'm presuming) good enough in training to consistently make the bench since coming back from injury.
