Hola Senores. In other exciting pre-Mundial news, mid-ranking Euro power Iralndanorte have lined up a potential series of glamor friendlies against wily Latino oppo, before the festivities start in South Africa. I'm guessing our SudAmerica visitors might fancy playing the game(s) somewhere in Spain- the search is on for a suitable Segunda Liga venue. See you there, Lope.
This is the cooooooooooooolest footy forum I've ever seen!
Miss out on Messi and Kaka strutting their stuff?
Miss out on Gerrard, Terry, Lampard and Becks crying their eyes out when they get bullied off the park by Ghana in the second round?
I think it's important for us unsatisfied Irish fans to be showing disapproval towards FIFA and not showing disapproval towards the sport. And it's important for us to make that distinction.
Rather than people boycotting watching matches I'd rather if people targeted the one place that will hurt FIFA, their pocket. Gather up the names of all the companies with a business presence in this country marketing themselves as "official sponsors of the FIFA world cup" and question their reasoning behind choosing to be associated with a corrupt brand. It'll make the corporates think about if they want to be associated with the name "FIFA" in future and what it really represents for the people.
I'm not suggesting anything dramatic. But if I'm buying a gift pack for someone I'll go with Addidas or Lynx instead of Gilette, I'll play Pro Evolution Soccer instead of FIFA. If McDonalds want to be the official restaurant of a FIFA competition I'll dine at Burger King wherever possible. Make the PR people for those various companies aware of those gestures and suddenly you've got the FIFA marketing brand being damaged somewhat in this company and hopefully put them out of pocket.
A much better solution than depriving ourselves of what is sure to be a great tournament.
Lads a frustrated Irish football fans posts a frustrated post on an Irish International football forum. To many cynics or hurlers on the ditch here who do not seem to give a **** about the Irish national team and post cycnial replies time and tim again. It would be like me going on to a wigan forum after they lose 9-1 and say lads get over it, and try to be reasonable etc. Let people have their nonsensical ranting, many of our fans are hurting.
If there is one thing I hate in life its a cynic and this forum is full of them.

One of the more sensible posts on the subject. One problem though;Adidas is also a sponsor, sadly.
But Yes, FIFA deserved to be f*cked at every opportunity.
Personally I'd like to see a mass boycott from the 'Pot 3 European seeds' downwards in one of the next 2-3 World Cups, if they don't get their act together. Plus most of Asia & Africa also get a raw deal from these crooks.
I agree with you on that lads, and its the reason that people who actually do care about the Irish football team and wanted to actively do something about it and get behind the team went and started Ybig and others who are too poste on it Its had has had huge success with its going green campaign and singing section etc. All ideas that were floated on this forum but were killed with cynicism etc.

Fair point. Although I'd say a direct sponsor of Henry should be given higher boycott priority than one for the world cup.
Still though it'd be nice to see people contacting these companies when the "official sponsor of the 2010 world cup" taglines start appearing. Even if you don't choose to boycott their products if it becomes apparent to the companies involved that being a direct sponsor of FIFA is seen as a negative trait to some they might reconsider it in future. Because to sponsor a FIFA world cup is to endorse everything it and the organisers stand for so those kind of issues should by all rigths be directed at those sponsors.
Bugger they do. Look at SuperSepp's 'Goal' program, designed to basically buy votes in Africa by providing the associations in those countries with buckets of cash. If the administrators in those countries misuse the funds then they are the crooks.
And the world cup was expanded to 32 teams to give Africa (6 teams, having had 2 teams in Italia 90) and Asia/Oceania (5 teams, again having had 2 teams in Italia 90) more places with ever decreasing places for europe (which had 14 of 24 places in Italia 90, 12 of the 24 places in USA 94, 15 of 32 in France, the same in Korea/Japan, 14 in Germany and 13 this time around, less than Italia 90!!!!). The chances of one of those asian or african teams actually winning a match let alone the tournament is pretty low but as long as they vote for Sepp everyone's a winner! [except, y'know, the european teams, who would probably beat any one of them hands down, who miss out]. European teams have made up 69 out of 120 teams in the last five world cups, yet made 6/10 finalists and 15/20 semi finalists, way above what averages suggest they should.
Africa and Asia have got a **** load from supporting Sepp Blatter and they've made one semi final appearance between them. One. Despite having the best part of a third of the teams for the last three tournaments.
I've thanked SligoBoy above.

They always cheat, they always lie
**** Delaney and the FAI
I haven't read the whole thread but i'll throw my 2p in
We are all football fans. We were cheated out of a place at the World Cup.
I am still gutted about it but as a football fan I am not going to cheat myself out 30 days of what I love - football.
