    Leinster Senior Cup 1994-95

    well folks,

I am on a bit of a deadlock at the moment. I am compiling all the Longford Town results since the 1984-85 season. It was all looking so well until I realised when I was going through the 1994-95 season that there was no results compiled for the leinster senior cup that involving us that season.

Has anyone any idea who knocked us out in the Leinster Senior Cup that season and would anyone have access to a match report? This is the only season that I dont have a result for the leinster senior cup involving us..

    regards,

    marty

Leinster Senior Cup? Always thought you boys were in Connaught!

All I can say for sure is that you didn't play Dundalk that season (we lost the final to UCD)

We won it, along with the First Division Shield and the First Division.

Beat Dundalk; not sure why that would have been in Richmond.

Richmond got a lot of the lesser finals and underage internationals around 94-97

The LSC was nearly always on nuetral ground until the last few (Dalymount being the obvious nuetral ground)

I know. And the effort is diluted further with the confirmation the LTFC didn't take part.

    After Edit:
LSC is returning nextt year. Four clubs from LSL ( Wayside Celtic, Bangor Celtic, Bluebell Utd. and Tolka Rovers), two from AUL (Ballymun Utd. and St. Kevin's Boys), two A Championship teams and twelve LoI clubs.

Wayside Celtic are holders they beat Athlone Twn in 1999 or 2000.

I meant to raise that point as I saw a small piece in the mail a few days back.. The last time the Leinster Cup was played was in 2000/01. We were knocked out in the first round by Kilkenny City that year..It would be good to have the competition back..

Meh. It was a nothing competition played by reserves in front of nobody. I think there was one in 2001/02 - we were knocked out 3-2 by Rovers - and it was dropped in the short transitition season (2002/03) and never came back. I don't miss it anyway. And we won it three times.

Edit - no, maybe you're right on the 2000/01 bit.

Its another way of playin the non league sides if you dont meet them in the Fai Cup or League Cup plus it lengthens the season.. Munster Senior Cup still going strong why not the Leinster Senior Cup?

There's a bit in the Herald about it. I assume the
    yet unnamed A championship sides
    are Tullamore and Carlow.

The only reason it might be good to have it back is that we might have a shot at winning something. Probably not though.

If it's run off early in the season, it could be useful for getting match fitness up. Maybe even as a replacement for pre-season friendlies.

Yeah not a bad idea. That would suit the non league sides too. With LOI teams needing fitness they'd probably play stronger teams at that time.

Pats won it in 2000/01 and the final wasn't played the following year (Bohs used a game to get rod of a couple of suspensions and others appealed/complained)

Can't remember the full story but afaik no final was played
