Sorry you are wrong.
You know as well as I do, if Keane or Doyle did it, the linesman would have seen it, the ref would have seen it, and most of all the 4th official would have seen it on a monitor and whispered in the refs ear, as per the Zidane sending off in the world cup.
Why is it Robbie Keane was pulled up everytime he handled the ball in the match?
But when Henry handles the ball, he is allowed away with it.
One law for Ireland, another for France.

I wrote another post on another thread.
You know that every ref is watched by a referee's commission that decides if they will be fit for officiating at next year's world cup.
This ref undoubtedly wanted to go to South Africa, right?
Now throughout 90 minutes he is very good makes all the right decisions, nothing too dodgy or anything that would jeprodise his trip to the world cup.
Into extra time and still no sign of France scoring and it's looking like penalties. The ref is hoping not to have to make a bad decision but also that France win since it's been clear for months that FIFA want France to qualify.
Then the dodgy goal and the ref is left with a decision.
Disallow the goal and let the matter be decided on the lottery of penalties or allow the goal and stay in favour with FIFA.
yet the team with the biggest population in the playoffs is out.
What has population to do with anything? Indonesia didn't qualify either and they have twice the population of Russia. It's to do with TV rights and sponsorship, in short money and France were in these terms miles ahead of anyone else in the play-offs.
If people are seriously suggesting that the likes of Blatter a businessman, not a sports person isn't capable of influencing results to ensure his profit margins are considerably higher this year then they really need to wake up. You are talking about tens of millions of dollars in difference here.
Just look at the series of disgraceful refereeing decisions that ensured the home nation South Korea got to the semis of the 2002 world cup and you'll see Fifa have previous in this regard.

YI,
Have you not a grassy knoll to be investigating?
The penalty claim was made in the first-half of extra time. It would have been a penalty and he could have sent Given off as well, making it easier for France. It was the perfect opportunity for him to "do what he's told", as you claim.
That's why I don't believe the refs were trying to push France over the finish line. In fact, I felt Ireland got a lot of 50-50's in the match and he did have a very good game, except for two big decisions, one which went our way and one which went against us.
I've said it before: one missed decision is being blown out of proportion so Irish fans can have a reason to complain and say: "Oh, life is so unfair". After all, what Irish person doesn't like to whinge?

What irks me just as much is that much of the protest is being led by people who only a few weeks ago looked down their noses at Irish football, if they even looked at it at all.
The only comfort I can take from all this is that the BIG are back, and held in high regard again.
Don't be silly - this isn't a World Cup playoff match we're talking about here - it's a tinpot little thing masquerading as the National Cup - no doubt played between two teams of plumbers, electricians, milkmen, the unemployed - on a ploughed field in the middle of nowhere to be watched by 3 men and a dog.
Now - if it happened in the Bolton vs. Blackburn game this afternoon - then that's a different story altogether
Kom Igen, FCK...
If Sligo or Fingal lose to a handball will they get a replay?
Only if the offending team is so embarrassed by the crassness of the offence that they offer a replay. Unlikely as everyone knows.
some wacko on the radio this morning demanding a street name change for henry street in dublin![]()
It was four decisions. Two offsides and two handballs. The penalty was an obvious dive. Maybe he was hoping a better opportunity to ease France through would come along at that stage of the game. Perhaps he didn't realise the handball was as blatant as it actually was. Who knows but either way we have been cheated by the corporate executives at Fifa.
I actually don't care for a replay but people dismissing it as conspiracy that Fifa are not capable of ensuring that France had as much help as possible and that they get their tens of millions in revenue are as naive as they come and know nothing about football and it's history (or sports in general). I didn't think the ref was particularly good either. He gave the French free kicks out everytime there was a 50/50 near their box.

I disagree. It was a perfect opportunity for him to give France a peno and also reduce Ireland to ten men and surely guaranteeing France a safe passage and satisfying his bosses, as theorists claim he wanted to do. Yet he didn't do it.
If the conspiracy theory held any weight, he would have not only given France the penalty and a brilliant chance to score but he would also have sent off our keeper, who is head and shoulders above what was on the bench.
If he knew the clock was ticking down and he had to get the ball into the net for the French, he would've given the peno as it actually looked like a believable one. The replay shows there was contact.
From what I've seen, he couldn't see the incident.Originally Posted by youngirish

Is he supposed to discredit the goal just because the team which conceded start screaming that it was handball?
He didn't see the handball and he wasn't told anything by his linesman. All he saw was the ball go in the net. He's seen nothing to think it was illegal. What is he expected to do?

How about organising a series of demonatrations and interuptions at the world cup finals, ie a green lepracaun running onto the pitch, grabbing the ball and throwing it into the French net?
That would give Blatter something to think about.

WUM
But still no no and no. There is a proper means to make a reasoned argument for change to prevent the injustice that occured but certainly not in the way you have suggested.
Blatter ruined our tournement, I don't see why shouldn't ruin his.
It would be something to look forward to at the finals and shame FIFA.
