If football matches were decided on positivity, optimism and hope we would have won 10-0 last night.

We made mistakes last night and we need changes in the team. It's something that has to be faced up to. Sending out the same 11 again in the same positions again in Paris will probably not deliver us a win. As I said, we know what to expect at this stage from those players. Lots of industry, lots of keeping it tight, a number of basic defensive mistakes, lots of running by forwards into cul de sacs, lots of crosses into the box with no-one in the box to receive it and so on.

Telling limited players they are world class will not make them world class. Telling limited players about the mistakes they are making and what they should do to solve them may well make them eventually world class. You have to be honest and tell it as it is.

Is the international transfer window open before Wednesday then ?

Some managers get the best out of the players that they have. They don't normally spend their time telling them how useless the are though.

What I saw was Kilbane hoof it down the field, a nothing ball. I later saw Anelka pick it up on the edge of the box and for the umpteenth time in this campaign Kilbane being the nearest player and stood off him rather than rushing to close him down. Needless to say a goal was inevitable because of that.

You can't blame Killer for that one, Best gave away the ball needlessly which led to a scramble and Kilbane being forced under pressure to hoof it, if Best hadn't givrn it away he wouldn't have being In that position so the fault lies with Best not Kilbane.

I take it you wont be watching the game then? Wouldnt be much point, since we've no chance.

Kilbane had acres of space and time. Instead of putting his foot on the ball and looking up for the nearest Irish player, he kept his head down and hoofed it long and aimed at no-one. As Souness said, it was another example of us giving away the ball cheaply. Maybe Best gave it away cheaply I don't know, but Kilbane is a very senior player and should have done better.

The main thing is, Doyle did his usual industry and stuff, but once more as in Bari and as in Dublin against Italy, he never seriously looked like scoring. Trap was 100% right to take him off in all 3 games. The Keane-Doyle partnership has been useless against any half decent team. 1 goal between them from our 7 biggest games so far. Not good enough.

Trap must surely recognise now it's not going to deliver anything in Paris. Even though we'd all love it to deliver something we have to be realistic about it and say it's not going to do anything.

What is bizarre is that people including the RTE panelists think Doyle should have been left on in those 3 games when he didn't have one shot on or off target and looked extremely unlikely that he was ever going to score.

Trap cannot leave a player on and gambe that suddenly he will create a chance, when for several games previously he has done nothing to threathen the other teams goal.

No, its just minds are fragile now after last nights defeat, to think all our hopes come down to one match in Paris... at least your being honest and not faking optimism i suppose
