    A quick question?

Who captained Ireland in Basel in 2003?
I know Kenny Cunningham was missing so who took the armband?

Talking about this in the pub last night and I couldn't remember...

as per kingdoms post - Matt Holland

"Frei drove an angled low cross into the six-yard box and Yakin showed superb composure as he nipped ahead of captain Matt Holland at the far post, skipped round Shay Given and slotted home."

I just noticed that Shay captained us in Tehran in 2001 in the Independent the other day. He seemed to be a stalwart that had been around for years then too.

As far as I remember he made his debut the game after Big Jack departed in a 2 nil defeat to Russia. And that's a long time ago...

Matt Holland, he had been ill the few days before from what I remember.
