yes but should it stand if its the leading team that caused it to be abandoned.

I've heard the 70mins thing mentioned loads of times but I can't find anything in the CDSL, MFA or FAI rules to support this.

    The rule that covers it in the CDSL rules is;

Rule 52: In the case of abandoned or unfinished fixtures the Executive Committee shall investigate the circumstances, and shall have the power to order a reply, play the unexpired time in 2 (two) equal periods, or award the points or tie. In the case of unexpired time being ordered to be played, it will not be compulsory for the teams concerned to field the same players who participated in the original fixture, but it will be compulsory that each team start with the same amount of players as they finished with at the time of the abandonment or unfinished fixture.

Here's a similar situation to help put things into context...

    Milan derby abandoned
The return leg between Inter Milan and AC Milan at the San Siro was abandoned in the 73rd minute after AC Milan goalkeeper Dida was struck on the shoulder by a flare thrown from the crowd. German referee Markus Merk escorted the players from the field with Inter Milan supporters protesting at his decision to disallow a headed goal by Esteban Cambiasso.

Twenty minutes later, Mr. Merk tried in vain to restart the game, but with various objects continuing to rain down onto the pitch, the referee took the decision to abandon the game.

AC Milan were looking relatively comfortable up to that point. Assured and technically accomplished, the Rossoneri had kept a willing but ineffective Inter Milan side at bay.

Andriy Shevchenko fired a sweet left-foot shot home from the edge of the box to put his side in command. His 141st strike for AC Milan was also his 13th against Inter, and the only goal of the game until the match was abandoned.

UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body will now study Mr. Merk's report before deciding on the final outcome of the encounter, which was a 'home' game for Inter Milan. AC Milan were qualified on aggregate when the match was brought to a premature conclusion (2-0 at home, 1-0 when the game was abandoned).

The result stood and Inter were fined €200,000...

    from fai rules ..

    rule 63. responsibilty of clubs
every club is responsible for the actions of its players / officalls / spectators .clubs are required to take all precautions necessary
to prevent spectators threatening or assualting officals / players while in the vicinity of their playing ground !!!
    rule 81. brawl /fighting
involvement in brawl/ fight is sanctioned with a suspension for at least 6 matches.... !!!

    rule 82. unidentified aggressors
if it not possible to identify perpertrators of an ofence the body may sanction club to which aggressors belong !!!!

rule 93. bringing the game into disrepute
anyone who has brought the game of football into disrepute by any means , written, verbal by action or otherwise will be sanctioned with a suspension and or/ fine and /or a ban performing any football related activity.!!!

so going on fai rules above looks like avenue may have got of extremly lightly in other area's were league could have punished them ... 1.. failed to protect players / 2..involved in brawl by which all accounts they created ../ 3... unidentified aggressors attached to avenue via family / freinds conections.. / 4 .. finally surely game was brought into disrepute by unacceptable scenes at their pitch by their supporters ... due to seriousness of incident it would be very intresting to know what excatly club or both clubs were charged with by league before punishement was deceided

Maybe true but I think those two games in Newmarket will suit our style of passing football on good pitches and hopefully with 2 good results down there that will be that.

if player was booked twice then he should have been sent off ... can the other team now appeal to league due to error by ref... unless he was an rineanna player and dont think olympic will appeal then good 3 points for them today

Dont worry, If Rovers have anything to complain about they will be quick on the draw with the letter of complaint.

You obviously dont know the facts of what happened....so stay out of things you know little about. Genuine mistake by Bunratty and no fault of BD...and we have been punished for it.

I am a little surprised by this result. Thought that Rineanna would be fighting to keep in touch with Avenue but have seen Olympic a few times and they are better that the table suggests. No grounds for any objection here.
