I know two years is only a short time, but it doesn't gel with the notions some people seem to hold that a fully-pro league with 5000 average crowds a game is attainable in the not-too-distant future.
Yea, no aurgument on third point PS, but to be fair it is hardly SF fault that the investment made did not get the response desired (crowd wise). Personally I am glad to see anyone invest in the League. Mind you, as I have long since given up on the "huge untapped market" theory any big increase in support for SF would probobly be at the expense of Bohs or shels 9as the two local teams).
I would see the Fingal model as a Tallaght-lite "build it and they will come approach" (new untapped market etc) and to be fair MK Hoops have made it work to a certain extent this season. Possibly Prem football is what they need to progress as a club.

Genuinely interested as to why you think this is the case?

Also, & I'd see it as the main issue - they need a heartland - Just like it has added fresh interest & impetus to SR. SF need to be associated with one place - being called Fingal & yet playing out of Morton looks to most like a club without a home. If they can/do get their own permanent ground in the Swords/North Co area this should give them a much better chance to draw increasing support from the greater Fingal area.

Also, Harpo has a record of trying to stir trouble by making things up, which I'm trying to nip in the bud as moderator. Maybe he's right in what he says, but you can't just call another poster a liar without any sort of back-up argument.
(I am beckoned by a not-so moderate moderator.)

Sporting Fingal had far more than '42' fans at their Semi-Final versus Bray Wanderers. It is an untruth to say otherwise. You have also contracted the poster by insisting they get 500 fans at their matches. While you may have blown a hole in your own anti-Sporting Fingal arguments I hope you have sourced Douglas Adams's 'Meaning of Life, the World and Everything'.

I do have a record of standing up to internet bullies attached to UCD. That's a problem for you.

Sporting Fingal are one of the few First Divison sides (Limerick 37 FC 2008 and Finn Harps 2009) that have fielded a Senior, 'A' and U20 side. Money well spent.

The comment about 42 fans was about their other semi final this season.

As bhs is a Rovers fan, I'd say it's fairly likely he was talking about the quarter final replay between Rovers and Fingal in Morton. It's a typo.

Average official crowd this season - 661. Not a million miles off 500. I didn't feel the need to check to be 100% accurate; again, most people understand the point being made.

Please try and look for alternative solutions to minor errors before posting aggressive, inflamatory replies such as accusing people of lying or of being bullies (or of abusing people or of starting cliques, etc). You've been warned about this before.

Yeah, I nearly fell for that one too! Maybe he's counting the play-off semi.

The Rovers Vs Franchise FAI Cup quarter-final replay in Tallaght saw only 42 tickets bought and paid for by Franchise fans.

Franchise only had 70 odd paying supporters in their away league game to Shels in the summer.

These away paying attendances at matches on their doorstep in Dublin is most indictative of their total lack of any paying support.

Even Dublin City had more. They had a football background and genesis in Home Farm.
Franchise came from nothing and have nothing.

There was 201 at the most recent match they played against Limerick i believe. Not great numbers by any means but still a nice difference between 40/50 fans and 200.

Back to the actual game. Fingal have been no great shakes all season when you consider the team they assembled but its the business end of the season now and with the players they have i think its now when it will count and their class will come through. Fingal to just shade it in a very good match. I think if Fingal do win they have a great chance of going up in the second playoff. If Shels beat Fingal i don't think they will go up.

Really don't want to prolong this mickey debate, but the 201 was a home game, with the implication being that it included Limerick fans and freebies. The 42 and 70 were for away games where no free list would have applied.

Anyways, can we get this thread back on the topic of the game? I think enough has been said about Fingal's crowds and what have you, so I think it's fair that any more discussion from either side on the crowds issue should be moved to rubbish to facilitate match discussion.

Honest question for the shels lads. Really not trying to start anything.

What would yous hope the home crowd (just shels) in tolka would be.

What was it for the limerick game last year?

Again lets not make this an argument about crowds. Im honestly curious as to what size of crowd you could hope for.

I don't think there'l be much difference in the size of the crowd if the game is at morten or tolka. There was just over 2000 at the game against limerick last season. Where half of these people are during the season i have no idea but thats just typical of the league in general and most clubs suffer with that. I'd imagine shels will have to get to the play off final before our fair weather fans make another appearance. So basically we won't see them this season

I would hope that at tolka there could be close to 2000 people there and if the game is at morten then the 1500 or so that were at the league game a few weeks ago. I'm including both sets of fans in those figures. There was over 1400 against UCD a few weeks ago. In fairness i think there'l be a lot more than 70 or whatever fingal fans there this time if its in tolka.

Cheers. Just trying to get an idea of what the crowd might be. If memory serves me right it was around the 1100 mark for the league game in tolka. Should be more than that hopefully. (if it end up at tolka that is)

The only result I don't want is Sligo and Fingal in playoff - 3 games in a few days!

So we all agree that the final result will be SHELS 900 SPORTING 42 ? seems a bit strange but should make for good TV
