Kingdom alerted me to it earlier, and was completely shocked, awful news. Only now have I heard he's died (still hoping to God it's not true), but RIP if he has. Not going to waste breath talking about his attacker, but what goes around comes around. Always the good ones that go, and many condolences to his friends and family.

Adam set that up before a paypal account and stuff.

YI, i think what you said is a great idea, think it would be most appropriate to give it to someone close to the family or friends that is going to the game who also posts on here. If this isn't an option or whatever I would be more than willing to take it to both games.

I had to smile at that McGeady montage from the game against Georgia. After that game you'd just know that he would be looking forward to splicing together the McGeady moments from the game for his pleasure and others as well as irrefutable evidence to be used when needed.

His passion for his country in sport came through in a very positive way, at least that's one of the reasons why I warmed to his persona.
It's very sad to read of the nature of his death and in a person with so many qualities.

His last post on these boards I believe, I guess he will never get to see those games.

Lads can i tell ye something, another thing for the home and away games would be a good tribute and get everyone going, but it was EBs suggestion for "we love you, we love you, we love you and where you go we'll follow..." and its catching on now at the games as well would be great to get it going just before the game

Thanks Paul. I still hope it's not true I was fond of Eirebhoy. He had a saint's patience with my posts that many of the other mods lacked which I can't complain about in fairness. As I said before he seemed like a genuinely nice lad, always very optimistic, polite, informative and positive (sometimes overly so) on the boards.

Anyone here on for setting up the paypal and getting as big a flag as we can afford for Eirebhoy (Gearóid)? I'd suggets a message such as:

Farewell Gearóid Walsh 1986-2009 (Eirebhoy). You have the best seats in the house.
    RIP
    Foot.ie.

I'm guessing Eirebhoy was born in 1986 if he was 23 but we should get this confirmed by someone in the know.

Again I stress I hope the news being reported is incorrect and we are jumping the gun. Hope Eirebhoy posts now and calls me an idiot.

    RIP Eirebhoy

Apart from reading his always excellent posts and discussing Ireland on here, the only other contact I had with him was when he very kindly put me in touch with a Celtic fan who sold dvds of old Ireland games.

His knowledge of the game stood out and it was hard to argue with his views because they were always so well thought out and backed up with stats. He was the stand out poster on the Ireland forum.

Don't know what else to say - happy to donate to any tribute being set up...

This is all very sudden, I'll have to think about it over the weekend. I've been waiting and hoping someone would come along and say it's all a big misunderstanding, but it seems increasingly unlikely.

thats so true YoungIrish , when i read the above it brought a smile to my face.

I remember You and I were having a "disagreement" over stephen Ireland early last year, and eirebhoy issued me with an infraction over it(it was deserved) - but as u say he had the patience of a saint and even in his email when he issued the infraction ,he was a gent about it.

He came across a real soccer man, Foot and the football fans world will be a lesser place without him

If our worst fears turn out to be true then,

RIP to the gentleman and sincerest condolences to his family and friends

Over 8,600 posts by him tell you all you need to know about his passion for the game. I didn't know the guy but I am guessing he is one of those diehard fans who'd go watch a match in weather you wouldn't send a dog out in, while everyone else, myself included was sat at home watching the TV. And he'd be there if the team were at the foot of the table or the top.

Looks like he did a fair bit of travelling around supporting Celtic as well.

A true fan, in every sense of the word, hail, rain or snow who'd probably put us all to shame in his support for his team. It's fans like that who are as important and more important than the multi-million pound players.

So, so sad. I've enjoyed his posts both here and other messageboards. Never talked bull****. Always informative and enthusiastic. I can only offer my deepest sympathies to his family and friends, all who, I'm sure are very proud of him.

I defo think we (or FAI) should organise a tribute at the France match, if he does indeed pass away. I have conversed with him on here and on lslforum for five years now. Terribly sad.
