RIP Eirebhoy. You always had new information for everybody here, and had a level-headedness about you that made you seem older than you were.
Had no idea you were the same age as me for example. My thoughts are with your loved ones.
Although I only joined this forum a few months ago I can see from reading this thread that eirebhoy was a person held in high regard on this website and is a huge loss to the Irish soccer fans community. My condolences go out to his family

Just heard Gearoid's Mother and Sister on the radio, they are incredibly forgiving people and an example to everyone. RIP.
Very sad.
A GREAT poster who knew the game and who was mature beyond his years.
I didn't even know the link with here this morning but his mother and sisters interview almost moved me to tears.
So, so young.
I realise this is about Eirebhoy but I have been equally moved by so many posters making their genuine heartfelt tribute.
RIP Eirebhoy. Listening to his mother speak put me to shame for raising my anger so easily at little things that don't mean squat in the wider scheme of life. Let's hope we get the right result against France to send Gearoid on his way.
And you ask me to help you??!! Man is evil!!!! Capable of nothing but destruction!
Oh my God, I just saw this now. RIP Eirebhoy.
I had a new PM conversations with him on here and also Bigsoccer. Was a sound lad and was always level headed and passionate with his posts. He'll be missed.
"Jacques Santini...will be greeted in every dugout of the country by "one-nil, one-nil" - Clive Tyldsley, 89th minute of France-England June 13, 2004.
"Ooooohhhh Nooooooo" Bobby Robson 91st minute.
Seeing the thread title yesterday with just "eirebhoy" I knew something had happened ...
Reiterating many posts on here, he was a great contributor to this site and will be sorely missed on foot and in life. Hearing his mother on the radio was saddening. Amazing strength by her to try to come to terms with what happened and keep a level head.
RIP
I'm not even remotely embarrassed to say I've just cried my eyes out at home in front of my family listening to Mrs Walsh.
Just heard and am absolutely gutted. Rest in peace.
Dont post too often but an avid reader so feel I almost know eirebhoy.
Heard his mam and sister on radio on way home from work, their love and compassion was truly inspiring. Didnt realise until logging on just now this evening that he was eirebhoy. I have never heard such words from a grieving family in these circumstances.
I wish his family and friends my sincere condolences.
It’s really moving. They appear like a really lovely family. My kids are only young yet but I don’t think I could be as forgiving if God forbid anything like this were to happen to any of them.
It’s amazing how attached you can get to a character on an Internet forum. It’s just playing on my mind ever since I heard about the tragedy and when I opened up the Squad announcement thread this afternoon and the fact that Eirebhoys username does not appear there, it just did not give me the same buzz as it usually does. He always respected people’s views and opinions even if sometimes he did not agree with them. His informative posts and optimism about Irelands progression will always live with me.
It’s just so sad that this could happen to anyone. The only thing he did wrong was to move to another country so as to give himself a better life.
So sad, Terrible news, may he RIP, you will be missed on Here.
RIP Gearoid
Here is his mother's full press conference from Sydney earlier today. It is really worth a full watch as it covers much more than what was shown on RTE this evening. What a fantastic woman to keep so dignified for what is a heartbreaking tradegy.

I'm sure you're not the only one to shed a tear..........in fact I know you're not. The woman is quite remarkable and it becomes so clear watching her why her son turned out be the man so highly respected by so many people here and elsewhere.
Most of us knew him only through his posts. I can't imagine how impressive he must have been in "real" life.
RIP, and come on Ireland. I'd like to think Eirebhoy will be watching the play-offs.

"Can I have a Kit-Kat, chunky?"
"you mean a big one"
"No a normal kit-kat you fat bitch"
Very sad..May he R.I.P
Just watched that earlier. Heart wrenching to say the least. Mrs.Walsh is a wonderfully strong and dignified lady. I don't think many of us would or could maintain that level of composure, considering the tragedy of it all.
My sincerest condolences to Gearoid's family, friends and loved ones.
R.I.P. Eirebhoy.

Did you ever notice that in every painting of Adam & Eve, they have belly buttons. Think about that...take as long as you want.
Jesus, how can you watch that press conference without shedding a tear. Poor Kid. Absolute tragedy. With a mother like that it's no wonder he was such a decent, considerate, articulate lad.
Will really miss his reasoned arguments and Celtic and SPL insight. His posts were one of the first I'd look out for - amazing to think he was only 23 - tragic loss.
The loss of one passionate Ireland fan is heaven's gain.
Rest in Peace.
Rest in Peace - never spoke to eireboy but sounds like a lovely fellow and from a wonderful family - i'm so sorry to hear this news ......
