The Wexford Youths Football Club are proud to announce that they will play Premiership side Wolverhampton Wanderers at Ferrycarrig Park on Monday the 2nd of November, 7.30pm kick off. Wolves’ decision to travel to Ireland in mid-season is a very generous gesture which manager Mick McCarthy and Chief Executive Jez Moxey were delighted to make. Their record signing Kevin Doyle spent 3 years with the Wexford Youths and retains a strong link with the club. Wolves have been impressed with the Wexford Youths main emphasis on the development of young players and are keen to establish a healthy relationship with the club.
The game represents a huge financial boost to the amateur Wexford club, in this difficult economic climate. A strong interest is expected in the game which apart from Kevin Doyle may also feature his fellow Irish Internationals, Kevin Foley and Andy Keogh. It will be an all- ticket affair as numbers will be limited for safety reasons. Tickets will go on sale at the Wexford Youths v Limerick game on Friday night and at the Youths - Cork City under 20 game on Sunday from 1.30pm.
When contacted yesterday, Kevin Doyle said ‘’I’m looking forward to playing at Ferrycarrig Park, my home place is just 3 miles up the road and I know most of the Youths players. It’s always nice to go home.’’

When?he was never a wexford youths LOI player he was a wexford county player for Wexford of which Mick Wallace was a manager and backer off for years prior to LOI and the inter county team where called "Wexford Youths" that would then refer to in that way in the article a little misleading I know

this would have bein when Kevin Doyle was 16 or 17... Thats how he got to be in Italy trainin for two mths whilst at Youths.. Did Youths get much out of his transfer fees in the Premiership?
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?
Dont know to be honest as he club at the time was Adamstown so guessing then got money not sure about the youths

Wolves came out narrow 2-1 victors against a Youths side who gave it their all in the friendly last night. Wexford started their usual 4-5-1 with Gary up front on his own while Wolves started 4-4-2 with Maierhofer nad Keogh up front and Hahnemann in goal behind Stearman and Mancienne. Wolves started the brighter without creating a lot while Wexford got used to the extra strength and pace of the visitors. Game soon settled down with Wolves dominating possession but unable to break Wexford open. Best chance for Wolves in first half came from corner which was headed beyond far post but Wolves attacker couldn't keep his first-time half-volley down. Otherwise, Packie didn't have a whole lot to do in first half other than come out quickly and smother a few times. Jimmy K. had two half-chances from volleys in first half while best move of the half was between Gary and Anto who found himself bearing down clear on Hahnemann but Anto drilled it straight at him. Nil-nil at half-time.
Pa came on for Packie at half-time in goal and conceded after about fiftenn minutes when Maierhofer tucked away a low cross from the left close in. Gary then had a good chance when he beat the offside but blazed just over when coming in from the right. Gary then got the equaliser when he skinned Stearman for pace and as he was running in on goal the ball came back to him from an attempted tackle and he tucked it away neatly inside the left-hand post. Wolves then got their second when a neat ball found Keogh clear inside the box and he lifted it neatly over Pa. Sinny then crashed a smashing 30 yard curler against the cross-bar with Hahnemann rooted while Pa did well to push another Wolves chance over the bar.
Kevin Doyle came on for the last half-hour but didn't really have a chance to get involved. Thought Peter White had a stormer at centre-half while Gary showed that he can be a handful for any defence if he gets the right ball. Wolves limited enough team in my view especially in the passing stakes. Muzzi also made very good impression when he came on.
Don't know what shape the team will be for the match against Monaghan tomorrow - with a bit of luck it'll p1ss rain and will be called off again. Just over 2,700 official attendance. Didn't manage to get one of the commemorative candles on sale though.

Wolves came out in the 2nd and looked a bit keener but this yrs youths are a lot more resilient, it was a big test like the Derry game last yr when we got wallopped but we showed that we've matured since then. Wolves had a few players trying to impress, Jarvis on the right wing looked particualary good although our LB coped with him well.
