Ya, I have this arguement with mates the whole time on email who will be out in their droves come the summer if we qualify but then complain all the time about how abd the football is and how crap we are etc. It annoys me less than it used to, i finish most now with the point that, no matter what it means to you it will mean far far more to me. And its true, im happy with that now.

Again id rather a small number of hardcore who make as much noise as a big number of mixed. Thats just my preference.

I thought the 3,500 in Bari this year made for a really good atmosphere as well. Everyone stood and sang through most of the game. The late Robbie equaliser against the World Champions did help though.

"a small number of hardcore who make as much noise as a big number of mixed. "

I don't think so , much and all as the self proclaimed hardcore think they are making big noise etc ...there is no way 3,500 fans can outsing a home crowd of 70k home support ...it just does not happen. If you are standing in the middle of the 3.5 k fans you might think you are making an impression but you are not .....the 35k on the other hand made a big difference and the mere sight of this crowd has the French running scared right now.

What is a "hardcore" fan by the way .....how many away games do you have to attend , how many campaigns ? Looks like a lot of very precious hadcore fans here looking for some way of distinguishing themselves ...which is understandable ...but you need to understand that this is our national team and being irish we get to support it or not as it pleases us.

the only real way of making sure "hardcore fans get their allocation is a a loyalty points system but even this has a few limitations.

By the way ...I am a vet of a number of campaigns ...going back to 90
And have travelled to many away games ....but I have not been to a home game in 10 years.so where does that leave me ?

They only game in recent memory that was hard to get a ticket for was Basle 03 ....everywhere else eveyone got in

Scots use the last 10 away games including friendlies 1 point per game - Home games are not included. Those with the most points get the away tickets. If there are remaining tickets and an excess of suitable point holders then a ballot. Deemed to be the fairest by the majority. Proof of travel required although this may be relaxed

Well if it there was proof of this its the games in Croker. Id sooner have 40-50k in LR, full of fans who are there to cheer on Ireland no matter what as opposed to 70k-80k in Croker where a sizeable percentage are there for the event and are quiet happy to spend their time on the mexican wave or criticising the team/players and how it doesnt compare to the premiership.

Great post. Similar discussions have been had before on the forum and at the risk of repeating myself, everyone's circumstances and methods of supporting the team are different and I personally would like to see a little less of the 'fan police' mentality common amongst some posters.

Sadly no proper work for a year tends to prevent getting to as many games as one would like.

Being unemployed doesn't make you not hardcore, if you see what I mean.
You can be a proper fan but who can't afford to go.

I think the only real annoyance isn't this example, it's purely those 'fans' who get tickets for just the big games simply because it's an event, and because they can. They don't really have any interest in the football for the rest of the time but hey, it's Paris and a big game to be seen at.

There's many good supporters who just can't get to matches.
They are still good supporters though.

Hopefully there wont be as many people like that this time around. Sure there's fellas I know who had 6 tickets spare for Montenegro who couldn't be arsed to go, yet I am sure they will end up with tickets for the match in Paris.

    Does anger the blood!

Talking os spare for that match, I met a tout on the cornmer by the Hogan Stand pub.

He had a big wad of tickets which he was trying to sell at 5 euros a pop but was having no success.

That warmed the cockles of my heart.

According to ticket office today applications were in excess of 15,000 with just 8,000 tickets to go round.

We applied for 8 and have been told we will be getting 8, which is the same number of tickets we have got for all 10 group games.

yes, but we know most of the staff in the ticket office at this stage, i texted one of them as they are not taking many calls due to the shee volumes, and she let me know in a kind of unofficial way, said we would get ours as they were well aware that we travel to all away games including friendlies.

Interesting to see what the split is between BB and non-BB. I have a feeling I will be out with the begging bowl again, just like Basel I and Germany.
