Going on players who played with us up to and during the last 14 game unbeaten run of last season, is that ten players who have now not been offered contracts and rightly taken up alternative offers?
Loughman to Athlone Town *
Keating to Limerick GAA
Purcell to Sligo Rovers *
Heffernan to Sligo Rovers
Sweeney to Cork City
Hughes to Galway Utd
O'Donaghue to Australia
Foley to Sligo Rovers
McCarthy to Galway Utd.
O'Flynn to Cork City.
* provisional but expected.
Bt wait thers more... Fyffe, finnucane and Cosgrave are now being offered contracts with junior clubs in the city and in Tipp.
Who is rumoured to be going to Tipp? Cork City are due to play St Michael's of Tipp in a friendly in UL next weekend. Might be interesting to see who lines out for them.
Another way to look at this is that of the 12 players used in Derry in the final game of last season, 7 are now gone (including Purcell). Also gone it seems are Loughman and Hughes. There has been no mention of Jamesie and O'Mahoney lately. Are they training?
It seems the license issue is the big one. Rovers need to find a ground and they will get a license. Limerick need a legal structure - hence the rushing through of the limited company? The FAI is obviously coming under a lot of pressure and getting embarrassed by the lack of fixtures etc. They will not wait for us. The players know this.
