England Under-21 team must have played a dozen games in his age group and he's never got a call up. It never seems to have occured to him to play for Ireland the last four age groups when he was in the England set-up, and is it seriously possible the FAI with their genealogical charts of every professional footballer in Britain didn't know he had a Irish Mum before? If he was current England under-21 capatain and he's volunteered himself for the ROI team without having his ear chewed by his senior club teammate I'd have had a little more faith but its never happened that way and likely never will, except maybe for a Northern Ireland lad because playing for them doesn't seem like such an appealing option!
Take a look at the England U-21 squad - every player in it has been playing first team football this season or at the end of last. Clark hasn't, hence his exclusion. That's the only difference between their U-20 and U-21 squads and he'd have to be a bit thick not to understand that.
The kid's taken a leap of faith at a young age to play for us - you can criticise him for it but I'll wait around and see what he has to offer.
With Mark Noble now being touted as a possibility, and Paul Greens current presence in our first 11, along with St. Ledger, I wondered if regulars on here thought there would be value in taking a look at Matthew Connolly of QPR in a friendly, a regular starter in the meanest defence in the Championship, (4 goals conceded) and highly likely to be a Premiership player this time next year. I feel he would be worth a look at and Id be surprised if he werent at least approaced and sounded out about it.
Also, does anyone know of Lewis McGugan of Forest being eligible? Ive heard that he is, and although he had some 'lifestyle issues' a season or so ago, the Forest manager seems happy enough with him again of late, he certainly has talent.
That was his seventh of the season, he's starting to turn heads, may not be a Forest player next season if he keeps it together off the field. And I think he is eligible.
Where did you hear that he is eligible, by the way?
Have a look at the Irish Abroad thread. There is recent some info there.
Cheers. It appears he has an Irish father then. I wonder if he'd be interested in playing for us as that's quite a strong blood connection for even the purists who'd object to the likes of Mark Noble lining out for us on the basis of having an Irish grandparent.
Yeah, I remember that, think he was at Arsenal at the time, looked like he was going to drift down the divisions for a bit but has recovered it. I'm sure the question has been asked behind the scenes and we will know soon enough. The QPR goals against column this season is very impressive and he is at the heart of it.
