    Kildare make transfer swoop

    First Division side Kildare County have further bolstered their squad for the coming eircom League season by signing defender Philip Byrne from Shelbourne and midfielder - and Kildare native - Shane Harte from non-league football in Dublin.

    Byrne, a son of the former St Patrick’s Athletic and Shels player Damien, played for Shels’ under-21 side last season, but has struggled to make it even to the fringes of Pat Fenlon’s first team squad at Tolka Park.

    Harte was excellent last night.

    Bryne could break into the team, looks like the makings of a good player. Very young and fit.
