I would say there's a very high chance he's our next manager if he fancies it. The timing was never right but it could be time when the job comes up again.

He doesn't play beautiful football but he'd get us results.

He doesn't really have any peers in terms of experienced Irish managers, does he? Dave O'Leary, of course, but his career has taken quite the nose-dive since his glory days at Leeds and I think he hasn't worked in nearly a decade.

He was involved with Kerr during his stint (was he Assistant Manager?).
Always remember him writing a novel to show to players on the sideline before they came on as a sub

I was at the game when young Chris made his intl debut. Post playing career, apart from being trendy with the energetic use of the clipboard, he's always looked fitter and decades younger than everybody else he worked with.

Now it's a bit a shock to read that he's 61. This Forrest job will age him beyond the irish job. 2 seasons to get them up, 2 seasons in the bottom third , then a season in relegation zone followed by the boot or relegation followed by the boot.

So he was 31 in Italia 90. At which he didn't feature due to Steve Staunton taking his place.

I don't remember seeing him much in green after that. Certainly not after 1992. Was it injury or did Jack just stop picking him with the arrival of Terry Phelan?

I reckon just looking at the Forest Job could put 20 years on ya

He certainly vanished quickly from first-choice at Euro 88. Wiki says he retired altogether in 1993 after a season and a bit with Brentford, who he joined in early 92. Before that, he had a season and a bit with West Ham, mostly in Div 2. So I guess he fell away and there were better options, like Stan and Phelan as you say.

His club career rather fell into decline from the late 80s onwards. He only made 8 league appearances for Spurs in the 89/90 season and left for second division West Ham the following season, staying there for a couple of years, before joining after third-tier Brentford.

He still made the odd Irish squad until about '92 but the emergence of Staunton and Irwin obviously limited his chances.

Does the ol' Jack Nicklaus standby apply? 'Chris has served under more managers than Jack Nicklaus has golf clubs'.

I saw him at Moorgate tube station last month. I didn't have the presence of mind to stop him, say I'm an Irish footy loving stranger and tell him he's great. I just let him go past in the other direction.

Torn on that. I think if I saw him now after reading this I'd stop him and tell him myong standing Internet forum person I know a tiny bit about (consistent football opinions) thinks he's great.(and so do i)
