yeah its the bashing his girlfriend thing again.i think he broke in and "allegedly" assaulted her.apparantly he did it to her before but the girl withdrew the charges at the last minute,but this time its looking like he will be prosecuted.

What a wakner....total and utter wakner. If theres a bigger waster of semen out there than Mr.Collins senior was in producing Steve and Roddy, then I'll be amazed. At least Roddy gives you a giggle, Steve is an unadulterated scumbag...nothing but!! He has several assault cases filed with the law over the years, and whats worse is that several of these are against women. For such a fantastic boxer (probably the best this country has ever produced, McGuigan included) to be such a coward is very disheartening. Maybe some time spent in one of Her Majestys hostelries is what is called for.It might do him some good, the old soap on a rope...

I know nothing about the wife bashing allegations,but if they're true then he deserves to be thrown into the ring with Mike Tyson for a few rounds,Tyson might be finished at Heavyweight but I bet ya he beats the smaller fighter to a pulp.

As for Collins being better than Mcguigan,not a chance.Collins had some good fights against Eubank and Benn,who were well past their best,but I remember when the great new up and coming fighter(at the time)Joe Calzagie wanted to fight Stevo he couldn't retire fast enough.

I personally think Collins was past his best too when fighting Eubank and Benn. I'm basing my opinion on Collins in 1991, when in the States fighting for the Petronellis. He nearly beat Mike McCallum and Reggie Johnson when thet were at their prime, and they were excellent champions. Collins was awesome back then, but got no credit for it.

i think you would be mad to try to choose between the two.
they were both outstanding champions at their respective weights,separated as they were by a few years.
the difference in retirement is that barry went the clever way(tv,radio etc).
steve hit the self destruct button (and his missus/mistress)
