McArdle in Drogheda trial
Dundalk lad and former Republic of Ireland underage international Fiachra McArdle, who parted company with English First Division side Derby County last year, is back in pre-season training with Drogheda United and is actively seeking an eircom League club.
The 20-year-old has endured a frustrating time since parting company with the Rams (where he spent almost four seasons) and hasn’t played a competitive match in over a year.
Though he’s training with Drogheda and would relish the prospect of Premier Division football at United Park, McArdle has yet to receive a concrete offer from Drogs boss Paul Doolin.
After joining Derby straight from Dundalk Schoolboys, he made impressive early progress at Pride Park, earning a three-and-a-half-year contract.
However, he decided to leave England after John Gregory replaced Jim Smith as manager and County ran into financial difficulties.
He considered playing in Spain but was deeply unfortunate when breaking his arm while lining out for local GAA club Dundalk Gaels.
His aim now is to find an eircom League club and finish his studies. Drogheda United could sign the player, while Premier Division rivals Longford Town have also reportedly shown an interest in taking McArdle to Flancare Park.
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?
Doesn't sound too bad.Where does he play?
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.
