    Hartigan is Cork’s goal hero
    by Colin Graham
    Dundalk 1 - 3 Cork City
    Oriel Park

CORK CITY manager Liam Murphy sprung a surprise by recalling Noel Mooney in place of regular goalkeeper Michael Devine for a rare League start.
Mooney has played just a bit-part role for Cork since Devine’s arrival from Waterford United last season.
Mooney’s return was one of five changes to the side which started the League Cup win over Cobh Ramblers last Monday.
Meanwhile, David Hoey was brought back for Dundalk in place of the banned Donal Broughan while the other switch to the team which began the League Cup reverse to Drogheda United saw Ger Robinson lose out to make way for the fit again David Crawley.
Dundalk opened brightly with James Keddy going close with a free-kick before Cork carved good chances through Anthony Buckley and Ollie Cahill.
And the visitors broke the deadlock on the half-hour when Conor O’Grady lashed home after Dundalk failed to clear a Cahill corner.
The game went flat after the break with scoring opportunities few and far between but Cork managed to add a second goal on 72 minutes.
Cahill dispossessed Aaron Callaghan and squared the ball for Noel Hartigan to control and fire in.
Hartigan added another goal six minutes from the end when he headed in after Cahill’s shot was blocked by goalkeeper John Connolly.
Dundalk pulled a goal back a minute later when Ger Robinson ran on to a long ball before beating Mooney.
Dundalk: J Connolly; Hoey, Callaghan (Robinson 73 minutes), McGuinness, Crawley; Prizeman (Dunne 67), Kavanagh, Melvin (Lawless 78), Keddy; Reilly, Ward.
Cork: Mooney; Carey, Coughlan, Daly, Horgan; Flanagan (Bennett 36), Buckley, O’Grady, Cahill; Hartigan, Mulligan.
    Referee: J McDermott (Dublin).

    Red face Dire Dundalk

Oriel must be one of most depressing grounds in the league although the pitch is of good standard. I'm guessing Oriel hasn't changed in last 20+ years & they probably still advertising businesses that have closed down!

Mooney started in goal & reminded me why we were all glad Devine was signed. Dundalk forward completely mi**** (not first or last time) the ball & Mooney jumped up completely unchallenged & fumbeled it. Course you wait the rest of the game to see when he'll repeat the trick.

Ollie corner, ball not cleared properly, o'grady volleys home low into net 1-0. Bennet came on kelvin who didn't look injured. Prizeman cracked shot off crossbar after given way too much room outside box, Mooney stranded. ht.
Loads of huffling & hoofing, some woeful play by Dundalk. City defend in number looking to counter. Only defensive strategy is.......HOOF! Mulligan chasing keeper 'n defenders all match. Ollie back to his best roasting the fullback at will.

Johnny C came for last 5-10mins when 3-1, Was setup with possible chance later on inside box but instead of having a shot got mixed up trying a dummy or something. I think Gunther really should put one of the young players on the bench for run outs near the end of matches.

If many city players hadn't been playing their 3rd game in 8 days they could have got a few more against the worst opposition i've seen this year.

Man of the Match - Ollie who setup all the goals & was very unlucky not to score himself with the third, but Noel made up of in the 6 yard box.

Kavanagh for Dundalk got MOM from announcer who obviously forgot to say it was restricted to home players. IMO the best footballer for them was their Lilywhite bear

Once again Ollie CCC proves to be our crucial player. Please God may he never get injured.
