planning permission for hotel etc

it is on the front of the leader today that planning permisson has been granted for a hotel, leisure centre etc beside flancare park by flancare developments, anybody know any more about this ???

Sounds to me like they're getting ready to ditch the site...

Go-ahead for new hotel

Longford Co Council has granted planning permission for a hotel and leisure centre complex on the Strokestown Road. The council granted planning permission to Flancare Distribution to construct a hotel with leisure centre and swimming pool, restaurant, conference centre and associated car parking facilities. The decision was made on February 2, just under a month after Flancare had submitted new plans to the council for the development.
The decision means that Flancare has the all-clear to embark on its ambitious hotel development at Ballyminion. The hotel is to be located on the N5 at the junction of the N5/N63 link road at Ballyminion. The council attached 21 conditions to the planning permission including that nearly 78,000 euro be paid by the developers as a financial contribution towards the infrastructural development of the site.
Flancare had originally submitted an application for planning permission for the hotel development to Longford County Council in June but the application ran into trouble when the council raised a number of concerns about it. The council received three objections to the development and in July the planning department wrote to Flancare to tell the company that the development did not meet the council’s stated requirements in terms of road access or plans. The council sought further information on the project. For some time, it appeared that the planning application was at a standstill but in January 6, the company submitted plans by a local architectural firm Grogan Architects.
Flancare’s engineers Vearncombe Associates from the UK also made a submission to the council addressing the concerns of the planning department.
The Council contacted a number of interested parties including An Taisce who made a submission on the development in January. An Taisce raised concerns about the impact of flooding in the area and stated that an Environmental Impact Statement was needed to study the impact of the development on other proposed developments in the area.
The NRA has told the council that it wants a Traffic Impact Assessment on the development and has outlined its design requirements.
Longford Council attached 21 conditions to the granting of planning permission for the multi-million euro development. If there are no objections to the development at An Bord Pleanala level, Flancare will be able to commence works in the Spring.
