Interesting snippet in The Mayo News today..

    http://www.mayonews.ie/index.php?opt...&Itemid=100008

Anyone able to shed any more light on it?

Who is over the Masters soccer side?
    Has the squad been named?
Will it be a hybrid effort a la the compromise rules..??

I think they should make it a hybrid game.

    1. Only allowed to tackle as per the finely tuned gaelic tackle.
    2. Not allowed to handle the ball, but can only run with the ball if you soccer solo it down the field.
    3. 15 aside.

From my reading of it it they will be announced on the night. so does that mean every team with their full panels's will attend in the event that one may or may not be picked?

they should announce it a week before hand so that the winners can attend if they can.
but its the mayo league anything could happen.
i know from clewbays previous awards over the years the players who get awards do attend on the night to pick them up.
so its gonna be guess work for all teams this year.

They will be announced at the start of the week before hand. The league would hardly expect all teams and players to attend. Any predictions on the Teams of the Year??

Just a match report on yesterdays game between Ballina and Charlestown which I think has an effect on every soo called smaller clubs throughout Mayo.. First half of this match in truth seen Ballina dominate possession wise and chances created. First two of their goals scored after two identical goalmouth scrmbles which were very soft goals to concede. Charlestown then went up the pitch and were denied a stonewall pen when our winger was pulled back in front of goal and it was waved away by the ref, Ballina then went straight down the pitch and were awarded a deserved penalty which they converted before being denied a further 3 goals by great goalkeeping before Charlestown got straight back into game and pulled one back before half time. CUE the second half and some of the most biased refereein decions you are ever likely to see. Charlestown immediately went out attacking and would have been 5-3 up only for some very poor finishing having 3 one on ones with keeper missed (two having rounded the keeper) but shortly after got it back to 3-2. The ref then sent off a Ballina lad but little were we to know he was gonna fill in for him for the rest of the game. After this Charlestown were denied 3 stone wall penalties and every decision possible went against us. In only one penalty incident our striker crossed in the ball for an open goal and the defender used 2 hands to block the ball, when we asked the ref why it wasn given he said there were two men there and he didnt know which one handled it, funny thing was the defender was standing about 10 yards from the nearest Ballina or Charlestown player, unbelievable stuff. From then on we hit the crossbar twice and were clearly not going to get a chance to level as Ballinas new player was having a blinder and it finished 3-2. Ballinas bench embarrisingly admitted we deserved to win the game and couldnt believe we were not given at least 3 clear penalties (they were 60 yards from the action aswel) I go on this rant because this is meant to be one of the best refs in Mayo and he was never going to give us a chance to win the game from the off. It is public knowledge he does not like a member of our squad that was on the bench and some decisions seemed to be given to infuriate him more than anything. another possibility is he just did not want to see a lower division team progress to the next round. He during the game was even talking to one of the Ballina players telling him how he reffed a castlebar game recently and they were not great and Ballina would beat them next year.....very professional..... We as a team over the last few seasons have grown up and decided to just get on with things and not question decisions when atal possible but when faced with a game like this it is a wonder we play at all. If only Mayo had 20 Damien Mc Graths a good fair unbiased ref not afraid to make big decisions. On another note good luck to Ballina a very good side in rest of competition, in truth we wanted a crack at beating ye more than we wanted to progress to the next round. Rant over:-)

2nd time in 2 seasons the same ref has been given this fixture. 1st time he sent Charlestowns keeper off and Charlestoen had only 1 player on the bench along with the manager and the ref held up the game having a row with the manager about organising a lines man for the far touch line even tho Ballina had about 15 people in the dug out. His report stated he was abused by the players and that the club brought the game into disrepute (a total lie, but the league are always going to side with the ref even tho Ballina defended Charlestown behaviour). He is hell bent on looking after the "super league" teams and on sunday the only shame was that there wasn't recording of the game or a referee assessor at the game to witness the embarrasing nature with which the Division 1 side were treated. He is a joke and has treated this club with contempt ever since he attended a function in years gone by and was berated by the league and the referee's society for going. Only way forward is to ask for a change of ref if he is appointed in the future or have a referee's assessor at the game to prevent further discrimination at his hands. After all he's the only one there getting paid!!!!

I was talking to someone that was at the Manulla Partry game and he said that some of the refs decisions were just comical. Its pretty unfair on players to have to put up with this but their isnt exactly a queue of people looking to become refs. I think most players just want the game to be fair.

On reading that report, one does have to feel very sorry for Charlestown. I've been to contentious games like that before and it is very easy to get infuriated. The West United v Westport United game in the Connacht Cup in 2009 sticks to mind.

I never tought him as of the top referee's in the county, maybe its because he referee Super-league games he taught to be one.On a side note there was areport in to-days Western People on the game and there was no mention of these penalties that was not given but did say that Ballina was given a hard game.
