I would be interested in hearing people's opinions on the 8 team per division format after it's first year. I spoke to a member of the Mayo League committee shortly after the plan was put into place and he said to me that the reason behind it was to make things 'more competitive'. He was referring to the Super League in general, but I guess he had the whole League in mind, why else change the structure of every division otherwise?

Anyway, from a Fahy perspective, I think we have to finish above S and F and Manulla to stay up next year. It's a big ask. S and F have proven they can beat anyone on their day and Manulla are a really well run, established Super League team. My point is that I realistically foresee the promoted teams going back down year after year, while the 'big six' stay up. Am I wrong in thinking that that's the opposite to 'competitive'? I realise that Claremorris broke the trend this year but they are still a club from a large town. It seems increasingly daunting for a club like Clew Bay or Kilmore to get there, let alone stay up for a second season, considering they have Swinford and Ballinrobe, fresh from a year at the top, to contend with. It felt cruel for Fahy to come four places from the bottom and still be relegated, but now it seems even tougher for smaller teams to even get a crack at the top division.. Has anyone a counter-argument? How is this making the league more competitive?????

The Mayo league are probaly delighted with how the league went well with so many of the divisions not won till the last day of the season. The 8 team division made it harder for us too stay up this season it meant that we went a month with no soccer and with 4 teams coming down from the superleague it made it very hard. What hampered us was injuries which meant we only had a full team once when we beat S&F at home. Have Fahy much of youth system say at U16 and U18's level possibly S&F would have advantage there.

Do people not think that €10 for aldults,€5 for OAP's and kids free is very excesive in these economic times for Sundays's Connaught Gold cup and sheild finals, other than the referee's fees what other expense is there.

I see from the Mayo League website this morning that Alan Gough has left ballina... another short stint with a mayo club. Micheal Hutton also taking over as oscar traynor manager this year.

They might be at home but these games are far from bankers. S&f or clew bay will put it up to Westport, Bangor have had a great year and partry seem to be very good in cup competitions. Claremorris only just beat Ballyheane and Charlestown are capable of giving any side a good run on their day. I think we will see at least one upset in these games.

It just shows Mayo youth football is strong ...... In the FAI Youth cup ... the west section, the last four remaining teams are from mayo, even though the section is mayo/sligo/leitrim/donegal. The 4 teams are Westport Utd, Castlebar Celtic, Ballyheane and Kilmurry .... well done to all involved

Very good alright, Ballyheane beating Letterkenny and Westport's win v Buncrana being the most impressive I think. Celtic got 2 byes, which is unfortunate, but nothing you can do. Boyle Celtic did not send a team down.

Kilmurry won 5-3 away to Snugb and 3-2 away to Conn Rangers. 2 brilliant wins for them which builds momentum nicely. Well done to all
