Connaught Gold Cup
Some very interesting draws where teams are playing teams in the division where they will be trying to be promoted to next season especialy as the chairman reiterated last night that they are still going ahead with the 8 team divisions next season. Its up to the clubs to bring the dispresences to the next delegates meeting wher in the First division u win or get promoted or u are relegated and in the 2 division no matter what u do u are relegated.
Cant see to many problems for the superleague teams in that draw. Even though celtic will have it put up to them against Achill and Swinford have a good test against Partry.
anyone any views on radio/newspaper coverage of mayo junior soccer so far this season. in my opinion it has been greatly improved and kept relatively up to date. a far cry from many a past season and more refreshingly is the fact that there is a fairly equal spread across all the county newspapers.
Things has improved greatly especialy with the Western but more is needed. We had a case last August where our U16 girls played a All Ireland semi final in Killala and Mid West Radio and all the local papers was informed about the match but no paper or the radio sent any reporter to the game even though there was not that many matches on that day. Also it will be interesting when some of the Cup finals are on will Mid West cary any comentary on them. I know its 11 years ago where we had a situation where they had first half comentary on the Mayo FA cup final between Killala and Ballyheane and for the secound half they took live comentary of a Leinster hurling match which had nothing to do with Mayo.

It is a great improvement all round this season. The Connaught is covering a lot of games in several divisions and I saw a fair amount of coverage in the Western also. MWR have also improved but I cannot see them doing a live commentary on cup finals in Milebush. Willie the Shoe was great for that. I hope they all keep it up during the summer months. By the way, what has happened with the coverage on the matches on the Mayo website in recent weeks.

Lads,
Does anyone know where I can find out what day on the June bank holiday weekend we are playing. Nothing on the Mayo league website except for stating hat fixtures will take place the 5th/6th June.
Get your secretary to contact the fixtures secretary in the league. I thought I saw a note on the website in the last week or so that all the cup games in the Connacht Gold Cup were due to be played on the 5th/6th June. The league programme for that date had been brought forward.
in relation to the layout of the league divisions and relegation/promotion scenarios, are the mayo league not boud by fai rules or regulations in the structure of their league? to me the financial outgoings for clubs to participate in junior football warrant a fair and equitable system for all teams, and should allow situations where teams can hold on to players rather than creating an environment where players just go to the greener lush pastures of other teams if in a higher divison. it may be safe to envisage that many clubs will not be able to survive year to year if this escalates. in all fairness the mayo league is a pretty good set up, in need of a few tweaks here but does not deserve a situation where so much uncertainty seems to exist now.

Yes but this uncertanty has been created by the Mayo league with this dafed idea, making divisions next season 8 teams for no great reason.
In the words of John McEnroe " you can not be serious", how anyone can have sympathy for the league on this one is beyond me. Despite this being a much talked about topic for about six weeks we still have a situation where the league have not instructed the clubs about relegation/promotion for THIS season. I can hardly blame them as if they make the announcement that all divisions are being reduced to 8 teams at this late stage then there will be a backlash from the clubs especially in the lower divisions, where their seasons are effectively over.
It appears as if the Mayo League can decide on the format of the league and cup competitions each seson according to the Rules that are on the website. There used to be a rule about poaching players but that was always difficult to prove as players themselves always had the final say. I agree with you that we all should know what the proposals are, but our own club delegates cannot even say for sure what the situation is despite the fact that they appear to have been told.
I heard last night that the FAI have recieved two enquiries from mayo with regard to setting up rival leagues, one from north mayo and not sure about the other. Both said they would be able to provide 10 teams to compete in league.
P. Burns fairly put the boot into the league in the Connaught this week, fair dues to him its about time some of these issues were discussed openly.
