What do Dundalk fans make of the man?

PRESS RELEASE ON BEHALF OF DUFC
    Tuesday, 8th September 2009 13:30

The Directors of Drogheda United Football Club have today announced that they are engaged in a restructuring of the club to meet the difficulties arising from the current recessionary times.

The club has announced the appointment of Sean Connolly as General Manager. Sean will take up duties with immediate effect.

Drogheda United Director, Vincent Hoey, commented, “We are delighted that Sean has agreed to take up this position. He brings vast experience to the role as former CEO of the FAI and most recently as CEO of Stockport County. Sean will be working closely with the Board of Directors, Board of Management and staff of Drogheda United to review all aspects of the club’s administration and structures and to plan for the future.”

Mr. Hoey went on to say that it is the club’s intention to strengthen the board of management and further announcements will be made in due course.

Mr. Connolly stated that is has been an extremely difficult few months for the club following its period under examinership and having to put together a team on a very much reduced budget and with very little time last Spring. “The immediate objective is to fulfill our obligations for this season and at the same time lay solid foundations for the coming seasons but I have every confidence in the people who are working at the club with the same objectives in mind”.

    Press release ends.

Bit of a strange objective? Any particular reason for that being mentioned? Sounds like something you'd take as a given.

Sounds like they're struggling to pay the wages basically.

On the other hand the appointment of an experienced CEO is a positive step.

Here's a whole heap of stuff from when he was appointed at Stockport County- http://foot.ie/forums/showthread.php...light=connolly

I think it gives a flavour of the "fondest" felt for Sean Connolly in his hometown.

Well if he's half as good with Drogheda as he was in those James Bond films then Drogheda have found a saviour!

its a bit of a surprise move for him all right.. I had forgotten that he was at Stockport County after leaving Dundalk... wonder will Matthews take to him at all?

There was a James Bond film featuring the LoI? Assume it was Cork City in Die Another Day?

Considering this is their second incarnation it could be CCFC in 'You only live twice'.

Possibly if Ollie Bryne were around Shels could feature in 'The World is Not Enough'.

A lesser man than me might try and make some joke involving Derry and On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but I won't.

Would you believe, I had it typed in, and then rejected it as too crude.

    Had Mr A's suggestion too.

Scarily enough, I also considered entering stann's exact comment.

Soon we'll all be able to chuckle at the witticisms on here before they're even made, perhaps even when they're not.

We could almost have an Alan Partridge-style Bondathon, featuring You Only Give Twice (Bohs) and From Rush With Love (Fingal.)

Waht about the story of the Mayo League's attempt to get a team into the league based in Newport - A View to Achill?
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!
