one of my favorite comments ever on a football forum was on the morning before the Celtic - FC Porto UEFA Cup final in Seville. One poster said that it was his Dad that had introduced him to Celtic, and there had been times that he'd wished he'd introduced him to heroin instead, but then he'd never experience occasions like this.
    Sums it all up really.

I know that feeling well. But I have to say I love it. Matches that really mean something. Woke up at 1am last night and could not get back to sleep. Stayed off the gargle so would not have the combined shakes this morning (usual + match). Have played the match over and over in my head. The what can go wrongs are thankfully one down to the what can go rights. COME ON IRELAND!

noely good man thats irish time as well. ive been trying to make myself forget about the match, even dreaming abotu it last night, i have these dreams where i miss the game or i cant remember the score and stuff, weird, but i hate them. Nightmares in my case But couldn't sleep properly last night.

The thing is though with me sometimes the final whistle can be a bit of an anti-climax for me if you know what i mean which annoys me. Rememeber that dvd where mcgrath says he wanted the game to end but then when he did he didnt want it ended, that sorta way. Cant explain it but knew exactly what he meant, well from a supporters point of view anyway.

So far, I can handle any type of game live but TV viewing does me in most times.

The rest in the house know something will be on later when I'm seen cleaning around the house.

Fine so far, once it goes past 6pm then the nerves will kick in. Am feeling surprisingly confident, we've an organised team, no major injuries, a tactically astute manager particularly for this type of game and two of their better players are out......believe lads believe.....and im never confident. I think we'll do it tonight. Wont be comfortable but when is it ever!! Come on the boys in green!!

I'm in work till 6 pm and live an hour away from my job so i'm happy that i'll get in door at around 7pm, have the dinner and then sit down and switch the match on. No build up to go through, no this that and the other and won't have to sit through Dunphy saying this Cypriot team is dangerous this or skilful that. Just a question for all. Will you watch it on RTE or Sky Sports.

    Sky sports myself....

Nice one, Paul. Saves me getting the CD out. F*cking love that tune. Quality days.

Weirdly not nervous at all. We have the better players, a strong structure and a lot of experience in the side. As long as we can exorcise the demons of that fateful night and play with the confidence that our ability deserves we'll be sound.

Dare say the nerves will start to kick in once the pre-match beers are flowing though.

2-1 Ireland - Doyle and Keane.

anyone got a link for a live stream??
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Hard to believe that is nearly twenty years ago. I was playing it in work here in New York yesterday and got a few odd looks.

I've been nervous all day but I think its the positive pre-match sort of tension rather than a dark sense of foreboding.

Just now (two hours before kick-off) is when I wish I was in Cyprus - Bari and Sofia were magnificent and I can't help feeling that I should have broken the piggy-bank open again.
