The head of the Government Information Service, Mandy Johnston, said she was offended by an article in The Star, which referred both to her and to Mandy Rice-Davis, a call-girl whose affair with British Conservative MP John Profumo led to the collapse of the Tory government in the 1960s.
She was described as "the Longford lass" and "Bertie Ahern's batgirl" who was "beavering away" on Fianna Fáil's behalf.
She attempted to sue Independent Star Ltd and journalist John Donlon for alleged libel arising out of the article.
