I think that if Miller pulls out, Carsley will be recalled.

It could be Steven Reid but that would depends on his latest knock. I would have my doubts about Carsley getting a call up at his age too when he hasnt even been in a B squad for Trap
    Its really not that complicated!!!

That's a fair point, but the reality is that Miller was probably 3rd choice for midfield due to his club form.

Gibson was injured and has hardly figured for United this season.

    Rowlands is out long-term.

Reid has been out long-term and cannot be ready for matches of this intensity.

Given the nature of this game, I'd say a man of Trap's experience would bring up Carsley because he's seen it all before, as opposed to a young or inexperienced player who could get caught in the headlights. This is not to say he'd usurp Andrews or Whelan as a starter, but I think he'd be first choice cover.

I would agree that Carsley should be next in line, but I doubt many would have picked Rowlands to get a call up when him did so it would be interesting to see what would actually happen.
Its possible he would just call up more cover at the back and O Shea would be next in line for midfield
    Its really not that complicated!!!

I didn't think of that, but it's also a fair point given the Montenegro game.

Carsley came on against Liverpool yesterday and impressed me. He isn't the most mobile player given his age but he did very well in the holding role sitting just in front of the back four. He would be a good option to have on the bench if we are up a goal with ten minutes to go in Paris.

Hate the idea of Ireland calling up Carsley.People here make him out to be a world beater. The guy is an average footballer, slow and poor distributor of the ball. Not only that but he would be easily overrun in a two man midfield which trap has employed so far.

Delap for me would easily get in ahead of him.Can operate in a multiple number of positions and has a devastating weapon in that throw of his.

i would bring delap he trains everyday with two likely starters.and imo is better than andrews, and can come on and slot into that role no bother ,plus added set play bombardment.

I'd agree with bringing delap too...I'd only bring him on if we were two goals down or something like that and really chasing a game...put on Leon Best, put Dunne and O'Shea up front and let Delap bombard their penalty area. The French like the Italians I suspect will struggle under the high ball.

No Delap, A Reid, S Reid, Carsley or Kevin Hunt... We forget its the trap in charge, as said above it will be O'Shea who played CM against Montenegro who will be cover for Miller if need be.. The wise Italian only wants one shock or surprise over the next week!

I doubt the French would be quaking in their boots at the thoughts of a 36 year old grinder manning the midfiled. Carsley is good at playing 5 yard back passes and giving away pennos but thats about it.

What about Delap as the not so secret weapon.

If we need a goal in the last 15/20 minutes Delaps throw-ins would be something that would rattle a few French.

Are you serious? Please tell me you don't really believe this tactic would be successfull...

I'm kind of hoping he means pushing them up for set pieces, but I'm not sure.

Shane Long also looks to be out - he didn't join up with the squad. As skimcg mentioned above it seems there are no plans for any additions to the squad. Its unlikely either would have played a part anyway but I'd be wrapping up the first choice players in cotton wool for the next few days just in case.

confirmed on 11aside that long and miller are out. have to say i don't believe these two players have done much club-wise this season so an opportunity for some spurned replacements to make an appearance perhaps??

I agree Long has done nothing of note recently at club level but Miller is in good form and has just won player-of-the-month for October in the SPL. Although some people on here would consider that being nothing of note too
I'm not his biggest fan but I would much rather have him available than the prospect of O'shea playing CMF and someone else having to cover at RB. I wouldn't be very confident about Gibson either, if he's fit. IMO a replacement for CMF should be called up but we still have enough strikers.
