Definitely go for Burgundy. It'll look good. I mean really good. 'Hey everyone', you will say, 'come and see how good it looks'.

Finally, 3 years after moving house, I am getting my bedroom painted something other than the "Straw" colour the whole house was painted in.
Now that I have a choice am not sure which to go for so am looking for help.
My duvet covers that I love so much are a deep burgundy so tempted to go with something like that but feel it will make the room too dark. Was thinking of just doing one wall in that colour but not sure.
Help peoples!

Will it seem dark? My room, despite being sorta dual aspect (if you leave ensuite door open) is still not very bright.
I suppose I could add some extra "mood" lighting to relieve the darkness.
Did you ever notice that in every painting of Adam & Eve, they have belly buttons. Think about that...take as long as you want.
Paint it black, pretend you're a teenager again.
Anyone ever see the Simpsons episode where Kent Brockman is reading the news and says "The following people are gay..."?
Behave Pineapple!
Thanks for that strange one. It does look nice actually.
Dahamsta - I didnt want black walls as a teenager and still dont! I hated my parents coz they made me have a green carpet instead of a pink one for most of my teenage years.
Ha ha. About that, change of plan. My parents are off to bonny scotland with my sister so have no babysitter so wont be staying over.![]()
No worries. In that case, burgundy looks good. But don't know how it'd go with more burgundy.
I'm thinking maybe one or 2 blocks of burgundy on the wall my bed goes on with cream. Am also exploring wallpapers. Exciting life I have! See got the house properly insulated and had to get walls plaster boarded so its an excuse to decorate!
Its coz I cant afford to buy so much oil that I had to get it done!
Do one wall Burgundy, ideally opposite the window that gets most sun. Something like apple white (NOT magnolia) for the rest of the walls. That should give you the strong burgundy colour without it looking like a porn cinema, and a reflection that should change between light pink and bordering on red on the other walls / ceiling.
I do like Strangeirish's shot, but it does have a wall of windows on the side we cannot see, and wood floors - for all burgundy, you really I am going to guess you have carpet, and at most two walls with at best two average sized windows in one and one in the other. And given that, for reasons I cannot fathom, I have the impression that it is a 1970-80s bungalow, the bedroom walls are probably North and East facing, as that seems to have been the vogue for a lot of Irish builders.
Unless of course, you are discussing the mattress laden back of the van, in which case I'd recommend going for a walnut panelling - very warm, and forgiving on the head...
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.
Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

Yeah have a few ideas now of what I will do. Just need to find the perfect paint. Have a pillowcase in my handbag for that purpose today!
Lot of wisdom in what Bluebeard is saying. People think of green as being a bit of a kitchen/bathroom type colour because it's "cold" but it can work really well in a bedroom. The master bedroom at Lionel Towers is green, quite a dark-ish green in fact and it works very well -looks great with wooden floorboards too!
Burgundy -other than in the context Bluebeard describes is probably to be avoided unless you have frickin huge south facing windows.
" I wish to God that someone would be able to block out the voices in my head for five minutes, the voices that scream, over and over again: "Why do they come to me to die?"
I dont doubt your room is beautiful but I cant stand green. Any shade of it. Think it harks back to my enforced green carpet in my bedroom as a kid.
Yeah am gonna go with a dark red/burgundy but sparingly! I will post up pictures when its finished.
Have a look at the apple white - it is gentler than you think.
It sounds quite nice - photos, man, photos!
