So, back to matters on the pitch. Barry Molloy has joined again after not getting a contract at Bristol Rovers. Unfortunately for Dundalk, that's 3 former Derry players that have turned down lucrative contracts to go elsewhere (Martyn to the Glens, Molloy and Farren to Derry).

Hang on ORA - surely you're not suggesting that Cliftonville's gurning over this has just been a load of unsubstantiated hot air.....?!?

Wrt Ciaran Martyn's move to The Oval, anyone know what's he like? Would DCFC have been keen to keep him?

Martyn sort of drifts in and out of games. Good player when he plays well, an attacking midfielder who likes to bound into the box and scores his fair share of goals, should do well in the IL. I'm sure Kenny would have loved to have kept him

Check out his contribution here in the game against Gretna: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WelpDm_Scd8

Ciaran Martyn, if he tries is a fantastic attacking midfielder on his day, will score from anywhere if he is given a chance,
That said his heart isnt in it that often and didnt get too many games for us last season. He went on loan to Norway a few years back and never
really hit form since returning, might just be what he needs moving to another club.
If he gets back to his old form you will have one of the best midfielders in the country.

Would love to see this happening but this is Derry City Clowncil we're talking about. Basically they do a lot of talking with no final outcomes. We'll still be investigating possibilities in ten years time.

Unfortunately the Gretna game was one of his last meaningful contributions to the team - been pretty much useless since.

So whats the latest here. If Cork City are booted out and Foras, Cobh and the new Derry all get First Division licences who will be entitled to the two free places in the First Division? Genuine question, trying to catch up on all the news without having to read through every post.

The FAI can decide that, probably us and FORAS.

There is only one premier place up for grabs as we went into the playoff when derry got booted instead of us being automatically relegated. (galway would have been in the playoff with Drogheda otherwise)

dcfcsteve's questions in the Cork thread made me wonder about what the structure of the new Derry City is.

Is it a fan owned and run club? Who appoints the directors? Is it a radical departure from the old structure or is it just a case of having better people in charge?

My understanding is that shares are/will be available for fans to purchase, so if enough fans buy them, then it will effectively be fan owned.

The quality of the new board is unquestionably better that the last one, although that wouldn't be hard. Broadly level headed "older" individuals who have been previously involved in the club and have successful business track records.

To add to ORA's response, we do have a Supporters Trust but it is still at an extremely embryonic stage.

So we currently don't have any viable fan alternative to having a traditional Board with better members. Cork arguably do.

Though I understand the Supporters Trust will be getting a seat on the new board (open to correction).

Astonishing quote from the Derry Chairman in the Irish Times today:
Derry City chairman Philip O’Doherty says he is happy any lingering uncertainty over the club’s immediate future has been ended even if Stephen Kenny’s side will not be playing in the top flight next year.

“Obviously, we’d have preferred to be playing in the Premier Division and we feel it would have benefited from our presence, but John Delaney (FAI chief executive) made it absolutely clear from the outset that that was not a possibility and so I don’t suppose we have any complaints really.”
What planet is this guy on?
