Bohs tackle away strip by gearing up in Dubs' blue
The new Bohemians' change strip.
Saturday February 7th 2004
THE growing trend of soccer clubs in the Capital cashing in on the marketability of 'The Dubs' will continue in 2004.
In a similar move to that taken by Eircom League side Dublin City FC (previously Home Farm) a couple of seasons ago, Bohemians FC have gone all blue with the start of the new season approaching.
Bohs' away jersey for the 2004 season bears more than a striking resemblance in both style and colour to the current Dublin Gaelic football and hurling jersey, while the sleeve of the shirt is emblazoned with the words 'Bohemians of Dublin'.
Sources in Dublin City FC have confirmed that their move away from their tradition blue and white hoop to navy and blue has proved to be a major seller, especially in the lucrative tourist market.
For each official GAA jersey sold, the manufacturers - O'Neills in the case of Dublin - make a contribution to the County Board. Obviously, this fund could be significantly hit by soccer versions of official Dublin merchandise.
Dublin's GAA strip will be changing this summer when their new crest will also be unveiled.
Strange how they don't mention O’Neill’s do the Bohs strip as well. The GAA should look to them, rather than blaming soccer clubs. The arrogance of them thinking they own the county colours or the crest. No one can register the county crest, that’s why their changing theirs. F*ck the GAA. They also don’t mention The Dublin City jersey is half the price of the GAA one. If their really worried about sales maybe they should look at their retail price. The reason GAA fans are buying other clothing ranges is because they are getting ripped off.
