Tuam Celtic in Div 2 with East, so could possibly be meeting East 4 times over next few weeks, Tuam caused the shock of the round last time out, knocking out Mervue utd

In a pre season friendly ? You played crap teams last year as far as I remember. The only decent side you played beat you.

But what if East Utd are the only decent team Tuam will have played in this years cup(although Tuam bet us)

Isnt that half the fun of a regional cup, the lower division clubs getting a nice draw preferably at home against teams of a similar/lesser ability? Otherwise there would be no point in 90% of the clubs entering the cups. I remember about 8 years ago a Division 4 Sligo team made it to the semi's and got beat by Mervue in a really tight game. God I'm beginning to sound like ITV trying to 'big-up' the FA Cup.

Same with getting into the open rounds of the FAI Junior, get a home draw and you have a chance

Attitude is everything. Any team can beat any other team if heads are right on the day. No one is unbeatable in Junior Soccer. Ability is nothing without correct attitude and frame of mind and a team all pulling together

Carbury are fairly strong this year, they've had no home cup tie this season yet. Athenry have come through two tough ties against Westport and Ballinasloe and will fancy their chances. S&F are a surprise addition in the Semis and could be a dangerous side for Hibs to travel to. Which semi-final winner has the 'home' draw in the final?

From what i heard the final could be on in Ballinasloe but I wouldnt be certain. I could see it being held in Milebush to be honest for whoever makes it through.

I would say that Athenry would have to be favourites for the Connaught Cup. They did beat Westport and Balinasloe Town on the way and they appear to be doing well in the Galway league also. S & F did well to get to the semi final and have been winning a lot of Cups in Mayo over the past couple of season with A Flatley in charge. The winners of the S & F versus Galway Hibs game will have home advantage in the final so it will be in either Milebush or Terryland.

Athenry might be favourites but they are not as strong as their Team that won this competition back to back a few years ago. Athenry could not score against Ballinasloe who had 10 men for about 30 mins of 2nd half, and all of extra time. They rely heavily on centre midfields creativity but Bsloe stopped this and as a result Athenry had very few chances. Carbury will beat Athenry if they have pace upfront as Athenrys defence is very slow and shaky, and if they have 1 creative midfielder who can get the Athenry defence turned with through balls. Athenrys keeper is top class. He saved a couple of Penalties in shootout. I would predict Carbury to beat Athenry and win the Connacht Cup.

athenry i heard were lucky enough to get through but believe me and i see alot of galway soccer, athenry are still very strong, they had a poor start to the season thats why they are lagging behind corrib rangers in the league, rangers aren't a patch on athenry, athenry's defence is slow but they are around a long time and and rarely get exposed, going forward they are quality all over the pitch believe it or not FATBOYSLIM the athenry keeper is their weak link he's shocking, their manager even played in goals this season such was his poor form,he's always been there achilles heel!carbury will be tough to beat but i expect athenry to beat them,in the other semi galway hibs are very average this season and not very competitive in the galway league this year very young side who will improve but i think foxford will be too strong at home for hibs.

west i agree i have seen athenry play a few times in sligo and i must agree that while they are vey strong
there goalkeeper isnt the best around. i seen them beat abbey utd a couple of seasons ago in the final and they were lucky that day 2
abbey played then off the pitch they just couldnt score. i tink carbury are more than capable of goin to athenry and getting a resultthey have signed some good players
most noteable one been glen shannon he mite not be the most mobile of players but he can play. he was joint top scorer in the loi premier division a few years back
one thing is for sure who ever wns dat game will go on and win the competition outright

True, Athenry were very lucky to go through this tie, but good teams still win even when playing poor. However i cant get away from the fact that there defence is so slow. They are terrible. Iv seen them play 3 or 4 times. Small sweeper is best of them. You wont get away with a lack of pace forever. As i said previously if Carbury have pace up front, and someone who can slip a few through balls i think they will win. Also the fact that as you pointed out there keeper is so bad. Iv not seen many teams play there manager in goal before. is this ex LOI keeper though? he was a fine keeper in his day!!!! Home advantage is a major plus in this competition though so maybe Athenry could sneak this one also.

The Galway league cant be as strong this year though having lost Mervues and Salthills 1st teams to LOI. Mervue would always be there or thereabouts for the league?! its obviously there 2nd team playing premier football now?! So i dont buy into the League table as being a true reflection

    Athenry 2 0 Carbury FC

Athenry won 2 nil comfortably, very solid all over the pitch & should have had a few more but the Carbury Keeper had a fine day between the posts. Carbury never in it at all.

Straide and Foxford 3 4 Galway Hibs

Hibs had a good win in Mayo. All Galway Final, should be good one.
