The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Has Dick Spring done something to you personally, Conor?Originally posted by Conor74
Perhaps the saddest irony is that he was struggling to get by, working for the minimum wage in the Aquadome...which is of course Dick's Springs lasting legacy in Tralee, unless someone is gonna mention the Blennerville windmill...![]()
No FF are just running scared from the real opposition Party in this country....Originally posted by patsh

From the program I don't think there was anything bad said about the aquadome itself, just getting surviving on the minimum wage.... And if that's such a trouble, who exactly is the main Government Party that sets it? Might not have been such a trouble if FF had removed minimum wage workers from the tax net instead of cutting corporation tax (yet again)...
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.

Of course, Ahern must be going through the biggest crisis of his "career" at the moment....Originally posted by Macy

On the one hand, there is Magnier, McCreepys puppet master, and McManus, the man who would bankroll 1/20 of the cost of the Abbotstown stately pleasure dome.
and then on the other
is Sir Alex, the man who has guided and led the Teashock's beloved "reds".
With important matters like this on his mind, I'm sure Ahern could do without the trivialities of Europe, his government's continuing destruction of what remains of a society in this country, health, transport, poverty and all the other issues whinging, creeping jesus' seem to think are important.
i think des bishop is an arrogant cúnt. His show is a complete and utter ego trip.
idiot. He's likel "oh, look at me, I've only got two euro the day before payday, oh give me sympathy"
Try having NO euros the WEEK before payday a$shole.
Prat.
Whatever it was I am sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman around here?
think ruairi should get his own show now.......
Whatever Des can do I can do poorer![]()
His whole point is that there are people who have to live like that all the time. He's saying that €6.35 an hour is not a realistic wage to do more than subsist on. He's saying that the people in this counrty treat people working in jobs like that like **** - something I'm quite aware of. It's not about Bishop, it's about how crap our minimum wage is.Originally posted by Ruairi

haven't seen the aquadome episode but in the opening episode he made a point of getting across that he wasn't looking for sympathy, that he only had to work there for a limited amount of time.
The minimum wage has gone up to €7, which I believe is one of the highest in the EU, if not the highest. Still crap right enough, but you can't vastly inflate wages without a corresponding increase in prices, which negates the wage increase in the first place.Originally posted by John83

The most interesting point about minimum wage work is that fairly often workers in the likes of Abrakebabra work far harder than people earning vastly more than them. In particular people in the IT industry, who quite obviously do absolutely nothing whatsoever of any value for their money. Stupid IT industry.
Fúck him. This isn;t about Bishop making a point of our minimum wage (which, BTW, has been raisd to €7 an hour for every experienced adult worker), it's about him making as much ****ing money as possible in the process.....Originally posted by John83

You think he's making that documentary for minimum wage? Or the stand up show that's based on his "minimum wage" experiences... you think he gets 6 bob an hour for that?
They guy's megalomaniacal arrogance is somethin else altogether... so what if he can work on minimum wage.... all he does in his show is complain... you think after this show that he's going to stay on minimum wage (i'd be scpetical that he's doing that while the show's going on anyway)
what an idiot, plain and simple
Whatever it was I am sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman around here?

The show has nothing to do with minimum wage.
It was a poor attempt by Mr Bishop to be funny.
It's so not funny that people are confusing it with a social issues documentary.
Mr Bishop was laughing at how the Aquadome was trying to be like an American water park but it had just two crappy slides. The Aquadome is a swimming pool with slides. I've never heard anyone try to claim differently.
Mr Bishop is from America where the minimum wage is dictated by the fast food industry and the federal minimum wage is $5.15 an hour.
Well known states such as;
Kentucky
Michigan
New Jersey
New York
Texas
all offer $5.15 per hour.
Ok so not all states comply with this.
In California it's $6.75
In DC it's $6.15
In Rhode Island it's $6.75
In Washington (State) it's $7.16
But states like Florida and South Carolina have no state minimum wage law.
Bishop was trying to survive in Tralee on minimum wage, maybe he should try surviving in New York on $5.15

Inflation has increased more than the minimum wage anyway, but not making people pay tax on the minimum that they can be expected to live on would be a start.Originally posted by MikeW

On inflation, the one thing that could be done that would start tackling it right away would be to de-regulate pubs. But even the PD's haven't the bottle for that.

Lighten up FFS, it was pretty funny, and it's obviously made people think about what it would be like surviving on the minimum wage. That has to be a good thing, doesn't it? Or if it makes people think before being obnoxious in the chipper, then that can't be bad....Originally posted by Peadar

Smacks of the drunk muppets in Waterford telling him to go back to America. He's making this for RTE, not NBC. Yes, the minimum wage is ****e in the states too. Big deal. Try telling that to the poor schmucks stuck on it here.Originally posted by Peadar

So maybe the poorest people in the country should take a wage freeze while the teachers look to get another 17% increase on top of the 13% they already got, and while the TDs salary has gone up for the third time in a year? Now that would be a ****ing joke.Originally posted by MikeW

I'm not telling anyone go back to America even if his humour is something which could only be appreciated by his fellow countrymen. All I'm saying is, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.Originally posted by John83

The show may have worked with someone like Hector but as it is, it's as much a waste of the license fee the money spent buying the Osbournes.

Seen him quite a few times, and he's normally good.... He's been in Ireland since he was 14 or something - it's not like RTE paid for him to come over....Originally posted by Peadar

As for Hector - I'd suggest he'd cost more to do the programme than Bishop, as he's a far bigger name. Don't think he'd make any difference to the show and would definitely have taken away from the Abra episode merely by being Irish...
