I'd imagine it'll be similar to when we played Bohs in Flancare in the final in 2004. Around 4000 turned up when our regular attendance was around 700 at the time.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.
For Waterford people, a final is a final, especially to those who dont regularly come. I'm delighted its on down here though, just for the people who come week in week out and have done for a number of years. And with the hurlers being knocked out last weekend, that should help.
I知 not pedantic...I知 merely overly concerned with minute details.
My understanding is that the clubs agreed to the location. presumably this was because it was felt that the League cup was not a big attraction at bohs (as in we generally play a 2nd string X1) and it was more likely to get a bigger interest/crowd in Waterford.
Nice to see a final outside Dublin againand hope that it suceeds in generating a bit of interest in Waterford.
Welcome to the John Delaney 'Conspiracy' Thread Part 237.
I don't imagine John Delaney gives any more of a **** about Waterford than he does about the rest of the league.
A leading authority on League of Ireland football since 2003. You're probably wrong.
Based on what? The Waterford turnout in the last real cup final they played in, the FAI cup, was probably, generously ,2,000? Am not having a pop at the Blues, but they have a tough job down there to engage the local population even when they were doing reasonably well in the Premier. I would be concerned that there`s a sesnse of complacency that locals are going to turn up in numbers for this without having to do the hard work to promote the game.
As for the Bohs support, its a saturday night, as opposed to midweek finals away to Longford and Derry, I`d be surprised if we bring less than 400-500.
Sense of complacency? Based on what, a couple of pure guesses on here? Give the club even a small bit of credit for Christ's sake. The game will be promoted properly, at the right time. It's over six weeks away yet. A lot of stuff that needs to be sorted out before the promotion begins has not been yet, and that's out of both clubs' hands.
For what it's worth I don't think it will be a sell-out, but it will go fairly close so long as the tickets aren't over-priced. I would expect a good home turnout because it is a final, and thus an event, but one that people won't have to travel far to attend. Place won't be full though cos it's not against an English (i.e. proper) side.
Does my cynical view of the greater Waterford football public look big in this?![]()

Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?
sorry I meant to say that the reason I reckon Waterfords crowds were down was because there was always compettion ie when waterford were doing well at the hurling their crowds were always effected but now waterford are knocked out I am just wondering will all the "closet" Waterford Utd fans come out of hiding?
I may be proven wrong but thats my take on it..

There's a big difference between premiership fans and real GAA fans imo.
Premiership fans rarely ,if ever, actually go to a game. When it's not on, their missing the pub, not the match experience.
Whereas a regular at GAA games, will be missing the matchday experience by the time this comes round which might entice them out.
