In a professional game full of awful characters Bobby stood out like a sore thumb. Football and life in general need more people like him. RIP.

Not sure Ive ever heard anyone have a bad word to say about the man, very rare in football management where you have to be ruthless at times.
    RIP

RIP Bobby a gentleman of the highest order and a true great of the game. Another of the great characters gone from the game.

Sadly I will always remember the way he was treated on Liveline that day when the cowards in the FAI could not go on instead.

IN football, on forums, on this forum, in all focus groups or quangos whatever you want to call them, people are full of crap old cliches, with varying words that never leave a core group of 10, yet you had the vision to point out something a lot more important than football but life in general. Brilliantly put and I couldn't agree more, life in general needs more characters like that, whatever people think in football about him, its more important those outside of these circles think of him, and what you said exactly summed it up, nothing more fitting than a world full of people more like him.

I hope Joe Duffy and John Delaney feel a little uneasy today. That was an absolutely disgraceful situation, I'll never forget it.

A gent... A rememmber thinking he was drunk while doing some pundit work during one of the major tournaments (might have been Euro 2000). It was only years later I found out he was recovering from cancer of the mouth at the time and this was the cause of the slurring. Felt rotten. A brave man to put himself out there during his recovery

    RIP
I pity the fool!.... But suggest ways that he might improve himself.

What he achieved in the League as manager of Ipswich was fantastic and the prospects of a "provincial" club doing likewise these days is remote imo.

God rest him. Condolences to his family and friends.

RIP Bob. His funeral will certainly be a celebration of his left rather than a day of mourning.

Bobby always had class and character. You'd never hear of him slagging off fellow managers to the media, unlike so many of today's managers. Newcastle should never have forced him out when they missed out on Champions League qualification, he always kept his dignity. A class act, sad to see him go.

This. There are so few sportsmen who are universally liked. Robson was one of them.
