Or after a few months apathy will reign again and this team will never be better than an average semi-pro / amateur set-up. I think its counter productive discussing who will sign / who wont sign etc - we should be focusing on giving whatever support we can muster over the next year, 5 years and into the future.

The BoM is not going to let us down - lets give them every support we can.
Funnily enough, I was chatting to a friend of mine last night. He's a football fan, would never support Cork City, he's not a begrudger, just not a supporter. I was on about the new club last night and he seemed genuinely interested.

Something fan owned will ring a bell with a lot of football fans - goodwill should be fairly high - could add to the gates this season at least.

With all due respect to the players not attached to clubs, if they were good enough, clubs would have signed them by now. Maybe the reason they haven't been signed is down to clubs' budgets/players' wage demands, but if they were good enough, surely a deal would be hammered out.
So no, I don't expect you to be just one season in the First Division

I think he's talking about the local Cork player pool, many of which would rather stay in Cork than play for a pittance in Galway, Longford or Dublin

In fairness, Cork's A teamand U21 teams have always been strong. I've no doubt's they're better placed than most to recover

Allowing the new Derry and Cork take the First division spots when they just so happened to get a First Division licence at the first time of asking, despite one of them missing the original deadline.

Two companies who have never before owned a football club let alone take part in senior football.

Of course it all just happened by chance that only 20 clubs got a licence making way for them two to be bumped up past the A Championship.
I'm almost certain that Derry were not late with their licence application. FORAS certainly weren't with theirs - unlike TNB & Co.

Instead they were more concerned with pretending to be moral crusaders at the hour in need; it was akin to calling the undertaker ahead of the ambulance at a crash scene. All they were doing was papering over the cracks of their own folly of not sorting it out earlier to appear to be the great white hope, Tom Coughlan patterned wallpaper that they will reuse anytime FORAS Alberts foul up in 2010.
I have to say I find your post rather strange. You post on something that judging by your post you have no knowledge of. By all means have a rant but at least try & make some sense.

Are you saying Cork people are liars, insane or what. Thankfully not all Cork people are like Tom Coughlan.

Thats better.Thank you for mentioning it. Were proud of our lack of humour down here. Although you'd need a sense of humour to follow the League of Ireland.

Excellent piece. He's probably the first journalist to get all the facts right in this whole sorry mess.

Fair enough, though with Waterford, Derry and Shels in the League as well, my point is, with 9 days to the season, I would doubt you'll finish top 5. Just an opinion.

What it does do is call the bluff of some of the "boycotters" of Cork City. Surely no excuse now not to get behind the new club and if the support does come out I would see them as contenders for promotion this year.
